Thats an awesome photo.  I never really realized how small an aircraft carrier is.  That probably sounds dumb, but when you look at the size of the deck compared to one of those F-18s (which in my opinion aren't that big)-it really isn't huge (which I always thought).

Well keep on dreaming, I've spent six years on the Carl Vinson and only three of the dozen or so guys I know of that requested "Cat Shots" got one on a C-2.

Try jogging around the flight deck. It gets bigger each and every lap!!! But you're actually correct. Compared to the vast oceans... Just a very small dot.

What really impresses me about carriers is the size of the hanger bay.  About 30-40 feet tall, about the same wide and I don't really know how long. There are three hanger bays. I'd guess about 300ft all together.

Did you know? When on the seventh deck (just about the bottom of the ship) towards the front of the ship, you can feel the aircraft take off. And another fact. The landing area with the arrestor cables? That's where my bunk was for about 2-3 years. Talk about having to learn to sleep with planes landing on your head.

They both will work perfectly, until you open windows.

jrpilot, just stick with school, do well in college and join the navy for officer training, you could be doing it every day then.
