'Lo all!
For a lark; I'm playing with AFCAD to upgrade NVLK (Lukla, Nepal) so it looks a bit more like the real thing. The stock airfield is just a strip.
(I put up a coupla pics on the Freeware section.)
Anyhoo; I've gone as far as I know in AFCAD; the runway and apron looks as close as I can get it to pictures I've DL'd from the Net. There are of course sacrifices; the most important being that the real airfield is about 9000ft. long; while the most I could squeeze out of FS9 is about 2000. (Numbers highly innacurate.)

Anyhoo; there are a couple of things I want to do that I can't with AFCAD; and wouldn't know where to begin:
1) Recreating the single most important feature of Lukla: the angle. The runway points downward at a 12 deg. pitch. The FS9 rwy is of course level.
Question: Is it possible to alter the height of the local ground to replicate the airfield's pitch? If so; what program/application would I need? (Currently; I have AFCAD and FSSC.)

2) Buildings: The village surrounding Lukla is a delightfully chaotic mess of worn-down, colourful buildings. Leaving them out is a shame - they make the charm of the place, IMO. AFCAD doesn't - as far as I know - allow you to add buildings. Ideally; the Autogen buildings used in S. American scenery would be perfect; but I have no idea how one would go about modifying the scenery to allow them.
Question: How do I put buildings into the scenery - Autogen or otherwise?

3) - this one should be easy for AFCAD users; being a newcomer to the app. I don't know how to do it. I want to add AI aircraft arriving/departing from Lukla - or even just sitting there; so far the airfield remains empty. I've tried putting the appropriate parking codes into the parking spots; double and triple checked the links; to no avail.
Question: How do I get aircraft (Pref. the Turbo King and similar 'planes) to frequent the place?

Thanks! Smiley

I'm sorry I can't be of more use than this. When you want AI traffic there, you will need to download TTools and use AFCAD to put in some taxiways and parking spaces. Then use the tutorial in TTools to make flights from NVLK to wherever you would like. What I am saying would make a lot more sense if you read the TTools stuff, so I'll leave it here.

Pilot for a major US airline certified in the: EMB-120, CRJ, 727, 737, 757, 767, and A-320 and military, T-38, C-130, C-141, and C-5 along with misc. other small airplanes. Any questions, I'm here for you.

1. You can't currently change the angle of a runway like that.  In FS, all the runway surfaces are level, even when you change the angle of the local ground.

2. You can use FSSC to place buildings in your scenery.  Its been awhile since I used it, but there should be some stock buildings you can use, or you can copy them to a new folder and repaint them however you want.

3. To add AI, you need to follow what Saratoga said and use AFCAD to add the taxiway coding.  Then get Traffic Tools by Lee Swordy and use it to add the traffic.  You will have to read up on the documentation, but wherever you get the programs there should probably be some tutorials.  If not, check out the FFDS site.  http://www.freeflightdesign.com/tutorials.html

Thanx guys - I made sure the apron and taxiways were as correct as possible (no taxiway; it goes straight from apron to runway); didn't know about TTools or the SDK until recently - Gonna work on that today.

The 'house' problem persists; I set FSSC to work on FS2004 (originally had it on CFS2); but the only buildings I get are the generic polygons - probably there are more realistic builkdings in the SDK.

The great bit is that with flat areas; I'll be able to add in the 3D quality of the village; it'll take a LOT of doing; but I'll get it. Wink

Cheers!
