I installed the newly released Direct X 9c the other day and was pleasently suprised.

First off, let me say that I`m running a 9800pro
Last week I installed the new 4.7 drivers and there were no problems whats so ever.

However, what really suprised me is when I installed DX 9c.
For  starters it solved a stability problem with my "WinFast" TV card and it is now rock stable under all conditions.

Now for FS9.
Although it didn`t increase frame rates. It now definately runs much smoother particularly under low frame rate conditions. The improvement when flying with  massive clouds with real world weather is very noticable .

Also, there is an improvement in speed when switching views in very detailed aircraft, paticularly  during initial switching.

There is definately some worth while improvements in DX9c.

I`m very happy with the 4.7driver and dx9c combo.
But it promises to get even better.
There is a 4.8 beta driver making the rounds that is supposed to be optimised for Dx9c and there are reported real performance improvements (higher frame rates) with them. Smiley

I have been using Service Pack 2 with 9c over a month now and I must confess it makes a "bottom-line" computer run a lot better!
I have the basic Dell Dimension 4500 with RAM and video card upgraded(FX 5200) and now I can use AA and AF without any trouble, and little FPS drop with everything maxed out.
9c definately is a major improvement that combined with SP2 seems that M$ is coming up with something that might be usefull for a change Wink

Joe,

Thanks for the tip.

I just installed the 9.0c DirectX and also the ATI Cat 4.7 drivers and control panel for my 9800XT.

The "smoothness" of the graphics is noticeably better now.  Can't say that there was a major framerate change...... but the flight runs with less little "hiccups" now and then.

Definite improverment!   Grin

Actually, frame rates take a slight hit with this combo.  Also, benchmark scores are down a bit such as with "3dmark"
This is not an issued IMO as the improved smoothnes is more than worth it.

However, like I previously said the  upcomming 4.8 drivers reportedly rectify this and give a frame rate increase due to the Dx 9c optimization. They should be released in a few weeks so, be sure to watch for them.  Smiley
