Dan,
I have just seen your post....Have you been on the Hard Stuff!!!!!
If not, mate I am a little worried about those GCSE's
Trying to get people on multiplay IS hard, as you say time zones, and commitments. Had up to 5 on the RAFUK server which now has Teamspeak, but again, it can be at different times during the evening.
Keep trying

The BIG problem I find with joining in Multiplayer flying is the wide variation in the type of aircraft that the simmers use in the session...!
I would have a SERIOUS problem trying to keep up with Ozzy in his Spitfire and me in my Cessna 150....
...!
...Or someone else flying a Boeing 747 at 35,000 feet AGL, Mach 0.75, and me in my little microlight flying at 500 feet AGL, 60 Knots...
...!
LOL...!
It must be very difficult to find a whole group of simmers in a session all flying very similar types of aircraft at the same time...
...?
Cheers all...
...!
Paul.
P.S. Has anyone got any tips on finding a Multiplayer site for particular types of aircraft, eg: Commercial airliners, General Aviation large and small aircraft, Float planes, Microlights/Ultralights, Vintage aircraft, Military aircraft, Old War-birds, Air racing types, etc, etc,.....

Paul,
Try having a nose through FS Spy Host. There are a number of games listed ie.. The RAFUK server in which we fly any RAF Aircraft using RAF airfields.
There is Props unlimited, UK ATC, which will give you ATC from their listed airports. Most are linked to a website so you can get an insight into their operation. There is Raf Virtual, which is run on a squadron basis, and many many more, usually about 150 odd game servers running at any time. Some you have to join, many others are free flight.
The main thing is once you make friends with a pilot as myself and Paul Roberts are, we fly almost every night, all fun stuff. You can arrange times of flying. One of the problems is times, as has been stated earlier, but Paul and myself were joined on many occasions by Tom from Nashville. One night an aircraft appeared with us at about eleven at night. It was a guy from Hungary (ozzy?) who said he could not sleep and saw we were on and joined us for a fly. Dan joins us now and then, but being a young lad, can't do the late sessions when we are usually on. Once this is posted I shall join up and see who joins.

Further to last post.......
Different aircraft IS a major problem with Multiplayer.
Nothing worse than seeing a 172 sat on the r/way with its tail down, or a DC3 with its ar*e up!!. If you are a small group, once you learn the types you mainly fly, e-mail or download the same types to each other. Paul and myself are always mailing textures to each other. We have a vast array of aircraft that show properly, even if one of us is using 2004, the other 2002. Unfortunately, flying with a large group will create these problems.
Scenery causes problems too. Often the other player sinks into the ground, or lands on your grass. This occurs when one player has addon scenery and the other default. You get the situation where a player joins and is sat in the terminal or in a fuel tank, etc. You have to turn a blind eye at times ( I often wonder how the GRD controllers operate on Vatsim and Ivao, as taxi ways alter)
All in all, its good fun to fly with others, get a headset with a mike (little as Ł12) join with voice and have FUN.
As to our skill in flying, you know the Red Arrows high speed pass where they miss by a few metres? Well, Paul and me are trying to get less than a few miles!!!!!
Hope this inspires some of you. Sorry for long windedness but I've had a drink!!!

Fozzer + all,
If we were trying to coordinate a SimV group flight on one of the existing FSHost servers....... it would be best if we picked a
specific
aircraft that is within the capabilities of most everyone to fly and use only that aircraft. My "vote" is for the Cessna 172. Even the heavy metal jocks
should
be able to fly that craft.
Also for dealing with some of the limitations of the multiplayer system...... each person should have the plane in use sitting resident on his/her fs machine. That puts one "vote" in for using a default M$ aircraft. Or lacking that, we would have to plan well in advance and put a "SimV Online" plane for the group flight into the files for everyone to download.
As to the timeframe...... well.... that is one of those unfortunate things that you will
never
find a good time for everybody. I think you just pick a time.... and if someone wants to join in badly enough.... they'll try to make it, no matter
what
the situation. And yes, we will of course miss some people who simply cannot make the accomodation. Such is life sometimes.
I think such a group "Simviation Fly In" might be a lot of fun. But coordinating it all and drumming up the interest across all the forums will take a person who is dedicated to the idea and has the
time
to spearhead it all.
best,

John,
You hit the nail smack on the head. If we all have the same textures in or use a default as you suggest, WOW. Can you imagine all those 172's on one monitor.
As to co-ordinating it, lets pick a free flight server from FS Spy that uses a constant IP address, designate a time and see what happens. We need a post in all parts of the forum to say what is happening so those who may not neccesarily look in this part will know what is happening. It will be up to those in different countries to work out the time differences if the time is posted as, say, 9.00pm UK time.
Lets give it a go!!!!!

Tony,
OK.... I see this as a
VERY
prelimanary start on trying to get his idea together. Let's be sure to not rush the idea..... it will take time to get a lot of people "on board". We should be thinking at the minimum of
weeks
from now.
I think we should call it a
"Simviation Fly In"
.... and "lose" the current reference to "game" as it is in the header on this thread.
And I can (unfortunately) tell you that I don't have lots of time to devote myself to in organizing this whole idea........ so someone else will have to really "run with the ball". My simpit (see "Homebuild Cockpits" forum) is really my main priority for my FS activities right now. I'll do what I can, though.
But I'll want to fly in this event almost for sure
.
As to the time frame...... probably oughta' use UTC time for planning and communication. That system is easy for "pilots" to relate to and is what is used in the real world of flight.
I think the flight should be a short format..... maybe one hour or 1 1/2 hours max from starting airport to ending airport. With the C172....... that's not a lot of distance
. And the location likely matters. It should be an "interesting" flight.... maybe that many people would not already have done.
Also with all that taffic on the ground and in the air...... probably need ATC to keep us from running into each other. (And to Keep Ozzy in line
. ) So you might want to be looking for someone who does ATC work on a FSHost server that would be willing to coordinate this flight "Fly In" idea.
IMPORTANT:
As to posting info on this idea in the other forums...... I think you should run the whole idea by our fearless leader..... Pete......
first
in order to to get his approval for trying this whole concept out ....... but particularly for putting what are really "multiplayer" posts as well as likely multiple posts on the same topic into the various other forums.
So... my $0.02 worth.
best,

Hi Lads...!
Just another little query.....
...!
(No, not me. I'm definitely straight... 8)...)....LOL...!
Is the speed, smoothness, etc, of the Multiplayer "Fly around" vastly affected by the speed of the individual simmers internet access....
...?
Eg: Broadband, Cable, Wireless, 56k 2-hour dial-up (me...
...!), clockwork,....etc,....?
I like the idea of the Cessna 172. It's a good, reliable, safe trainer, with a reasonable turn of speed, a good Nav/Com radio stack and simple controls....
.....and it's in everyone's default FS 2002/FS 2004 hangar...
...!
(I'll have the nice "red" one please...
...)....LOL...!
Cheers all...
...!

Hi Tony...!
I've got the Willy's jeep for a bit of fun in the rough stuff...
But the rest of my hangar is full of small, general aviation, cheap to buy, cheap to insure, cheap to maintain, cheap to run, etc, etc,...aircraft...

Flown on a PPL licence...VFR only...

Which comes down to Microlights in the end...

LOL...!

Hi Hanzaki
You will not need a mike.
If the game is taking place on a permanent server in, say, FS Host, the IP address can be posted prior to the date, and all you would have to do is type in the IP address in your Multiplayer.
If you want to try this out, open your Multiplayer, type in exactly as follows... pcbob.hopto.org Then click 'Search' then 'join' and you will be connected to the RAF UK server and you will not require any software extra. Once connected, you can press Enter to get the chat box up.
Hope this helps
Tony
