Please use caution when adding screenshots of cities or USA Roads. These normally cannot be saved as 800 x 600 with normal resolution as they will be way over 100K each. Thanks ---SaVas

I have been thinking about downloading the add on for FS9 " USA Roads". http://www.flight1.com/

Am I glad I did !
Below are a couple of screen captures over Chicago & LAX. It really makes it a joy to fly visually at 10,000 feet. You can see all the roads and highways.....

Yeah right..
Just thought I would ask if anybody else has tried this program. I debated a while before buying it. Now I wish I had gotten it a long time ago. I hated flying VFR and not seeing the roads to navigate by. NOW I CAN !

And no I do not work for the company. Wish I did, maybe I could get some of the other ad ons for free....  Wink

Yeah, I just bought this as well and installed last night.

What a huge differnce, especially if you fly VFR. I posted a thread with some screen shots of Spokane and someone from there said he could pic out his street from my pics  Shocked

Nice, too bad it's for FS9 or I'd buy it! I'm not going to get FS9 untill the price drops at least $10.00.

It does look good but the only thing I dont like about it, is it looks like wire mesh put over the landscape. Need to change the coloration a bit so all the roads are not the same color

So you can set this addon to the roads you want, like all highways, or add side streets etc?

Unfortunately I deactivated US Roads on my machine last night. It will stay that way until there is a fix for the coastlines and then a fix for any affected scenery.

I was flying around Pittsburgh the other day and noticed roads in the rivers and roads crossing rivers right next to bridges. In short it looked horrible and ruined it for me. I went to the support forum and apparently there are problems like this in other areas since the default coastlines are off by so much.
Shame, I really like the product when it works but this problem just spoils the whole experience.

The two options are Major Roads and All Roads.

How frame rate friendly is it?
Are there cars on them roads?

I have the money ready for purchase but am still wondering how well it works with other add-on scenery? and I was waiting for it on cd, no way I'm downloading it!

In speedbird's shot above here...... there is a large dark green area in the upper right hand side of the city pictured.  The dark green area looks like it would logically be a park within the confines of the city.

But it is covered with a "mesh" of streets breaking it up into small rectalinear segments....... that really look pretty un-natural for such a park-like area.....even in a city

This seems pretty weird to me.  Is this how the "real roads" are in this particular area.... or it is another "bug" in the USA Roads overlay like the streets that go out into the ocean water and that run across rivers with no bridges?

best,

fretnstuff asked for some night shots with USA Roads so here are some. He also asked about FPS.  You cant see it here due to resizing, but I was getting 49FPS (locked at 50 in these shots).

...

JBaymore asks about the park with the "grid".  You are correct. This seems to be a bug. I changed the settings in USA Roads to "'Major Roads Only" and this is the result. Much more realistic.  Yes, some roads do run into the middle of a lake in places, but I can live with that.
FPS=31 in this shot. Note though that Im also running all settings at MAX including 2004 Traffic

you know i gotta tell you...like so many other claims for add ons, this one too falls short...now dont get me wrong...i bought it and installed it the other day, and its "so so" in my opinion...roads are blurry until you are at least 3 or 4 thousand ft....the bridges now have concrete roads in the water right next to them, etc etc..ok....i still need to tweak, but, this add on reminds me of the "mega scenery" add ons that everyone seems to rave about; the fact is (in my opinion) that maga just produces mega blur just so we can have an accurate coastline,,,i loaded and reloaded mega twice, thinking i would grow to like it...i dont and now i deleted it forever...to me ,,the fs genesis and add on scenery freeware, airports, cities, etc landclass is the way to go....and those of you who say  "who cares, i'm always at altitude anyway" i say you still have to climb out and land and thats where the fun is,........so i happen to like decent 'clean' ground textures  i have a lot to say about all the claims made by these payware guys but for now i'll end this and spare you.

Speedbird,

It is not JUST about the size of the image.  You can have image files that are 800w and be in the Megabyte size range from some programs.

Take some time with your screenshot program or photo editing program to see what options there are for controling files size.  You'll likely find that you almost always use some form of compression......particularly at 800w.

But 640 w is no guarantee either.

You have to take the time to look at the filesize at least in Win Explore before you upload them.  Different details in shots changes the filesize for the given format based on the complexity of the image and the number of colors present.

best,

ALL MY SCREENS WERE 500X375.....WHAT GIVES????????????????? They were all the same size as the one you left.

Speedbird, out of curiosity, what program do you use for saving jpgs?

I use Irfanview, and rarely have any that go over 100K.

The 3 that I found were around 110kb+

Not a whole lot over and not saying you would do it, but for some people if you give an inch they take a mile.

Apparently the US Roads screens take up A LOT of space.

Try posting them again Speedbird, maybe Irfanview will make them less than 100K.  Smiley

Thanks SaVas I think it worked.  I rechecked the previously posted pics and they were indeed 105 Kb.  Not much over, but over non the less, and that was wrong of me.   ???
