CraigL....your right...being new to fs I have a tendency to concentrate on the glide slope lights at the end of the runway, insturments, gear, flaps, air speed etc. and forget that there are other planes flying around.  Right now I am more mechanical in my flying and not "comfortable".....a little heavy handed on the controls....but, as I gain flying time/experience hopefully this will all improve.  One thing I am learning for sure "you need to anticipate....and think ahead of the plane you are flying"!   8)

LOL...Hey, CreigL if there is anything that I appreciate its an honest opinion.  You wern't being sarcastic, you were being more helpful then you think.  Now being sarcastic is the lady who tells you when you have flunked the Private Pilots license for the 400th time and that she is going "to have to terminate this flight"!!  She just has that tone in her voice, you know.....once I even dove the plane straight into the ground trying to kill her!  Angry

The truth is the truth and just like driving a car, opperating mechines, aircraft etc......you are absolutily correct when you say "we need to pay more attention".   Roger that!   8)

Yes a "determined woman".....however if you look straight down (Numb. Key 5) just about the time the Cesena is at 2000ft @100mph over the end of the Seattle runway.....thats where I burried her with gleeeee!  She never saw it coming....as you said " not paying attention"!   Wink

With reference to where you can get hold of approach plates, I think the big boys of the real world, Jeppesen, have made their stuff available to flight simmers for years, and my old company AERAD (now part of SAS flight data) have recently announced that they'll do the same. Sorry no contact details, but the internet is sure to yield results. Smiley

I know that this is not very realistic, however, I use one of these two methods when I don't want to do a go around.

Method #1: When you are overrun by another aircraft press the Slew Mode key "Y".  This effectively "stops" your aircraft in place.  Once the rude pilot of the AI craft has cleared the runway just press the "Y" key again. You can then land normally.

Method #2: I purchased Ultimate Traffic about 4 months ago and absolutely LOVE that program! There are, however, many busy airports (KDFW for example).  If I don't want overruns on final, I simply go to the Flight Simulator Menu to Options/Settings/Traffic and cut the Air Traffic Density down to about 30%.  When I exit the runway I push it back up to 100%.

As for "watching my six" I have installed Eric Marciano's great F-16 radar as an aux panel on all of my planes (that have radar in the real world).  That way I can "check six" regularly while landing.  I'm lazy and haven't yet tried the Ultimate Traffic TCAS.

I hope this helps

Hey pooty13901......Would you know where you might get approach charts or are they something that only real world pilots have access to?   8)

Billerator ~ Do you think if I use IFR and do the 5 to 10 minute go around......the AI will do the same thing again?

Corbin, I have been using SimPlates 2004 for some time now. They give you approach plates, airport ,information, airport maps etc. From www.dauntless-soft.com

Yoda,

Thanks for posting that link. It's a great site that I had bookmarked a long time ago and then lost it during a computer change. It's nice to have it back.

You're welsome...I use it almost daily for my flying.  And it's nice after a real flight to come home and re-create the flight.

Graycat8524 ~ Thanks for the tips!  Have a few questions for you:

A.  Where can you get the "Ultimate Traffic" program and whats the cost?

B.  Any problems using it with Windows XP & FS2004?

C.  "Watching My Six"........would love to have the F-16 radar!!!  Have a link?   Cheesy

Snowdancer2 ~ Thanks for the link (Great Site)!  8)

Hi all,

I have waited for a long time to show this pic. I know this isn't the screenshot section, but this is right on target and, for the love of god, I swore I would use this shot somewhere Grin

Here's a missed approach/go around in IFR flight enroute to Honolulu Int'l. I was lined up for Visual Rwy 26L, missed it, told to go around and expect vectors ILS Rwy 4R. As anyone who has flown into PHNL can see, ATC was clearing me to land Rwy 4R while putting me on an approach for 8L.

...

Not only is ATC blind at times, but man, watch the boozin' in the tower would ya'?

ATC was probibly "HIGH" on fermented pineapple juice or too much "pure cain sugar" in their coffee!  "Great Stuff" pooty13901!  That's exactly how I fly......over the ends of each runway, checking out the numbers!

Thanks to Snowdancer2 I now have Simplates 2004....this is going to help me out a bunch!   8)
