General aviation is full of terms. VOR is a radio navigation aid. There's a lesson on using that in the sim. Lesson 3 under Private Pilot. I think you mean IFR. IFR means Instrument Flight Rules. It's what pilots use when the weather is bad or visibility is poor and how airline pilots fly all their flights. FS 2004 has a lot of lessons so just jump in and start working on those and you'll pick up a lot of the stuff you need to know.

I've flown a few of those sims you mention. They are OK for flying around but the planes you use in them are for the most part bricks with big engines. Flying civilian aircraft requires a lot more finess because you don't have a gazillion pounds of thrust moving you around. It's a whole different kind of flying.

ohh and by the way FS 2004 has a really good learning center with tutorials and all that good stuff that teaches you everything about piloting and all the lingo.
