It's only  the standard sanitary dump pressure valves (SDPV's) kicking in, that's only legal over oceanic airspace buddy

I had the same problem and I cant remember if I fixed it reinstalling FS2004, deleting fs9.cfg and letting a new one be built, or reinstalling a video driver. Give each one a try and see what happens

If the contrails extend to ground level, its caused by an add-on  replacing the FS9 'fx_contrail_?.fx' files with FS2002 files.

Look in your FS9/Effects folder for the 2 'fx_contrail_?.fx' files. Check the file date. FS9 files should be 5/14/2003.

You can reinstall the correct files from you FS9 CDs.

Cheers,
Dave

your problem is exactly what dave has said your contrails file has been altered the only way to fix this is to put back the orignals.
You only need 2 files 8)

This is where you learn that backing-up is essential  Smiley .

I can only think of looking through your FS disks and finding the effects folder in one of the .cab files.

Could you post the 4 file names including the extension (i.e 'fx_contrail_s.fx').

Cheers,
Dave

Technically they could, if they had the right shape.

contrails are to do with engine exhaust not shape. Or so i have been told all these years. The vapour trails are to do with the wings and so on when there is high humidity
