Well,  here is my first attempt at a design for my expandable cockpit. Intention is to have 5- 21" monitors.

Just in case anyone asks, the cad program used is "Mike's Lego CAD".  That's right, a LEGO cad program.

Any comments, opinions, suggestions... Be gentle Grin

Thanks

By the way... I'm not going for realistic as much as I am functional and CHEAP!

What do computers and air conditioners have in common?...
They both will work perfectly, until you open windows.

Well, I'm not going for any particular design. Just something that will function in any mood of flying I'm in.

Skittles,

I recently saw your current Goflight setup in a post down in the "Your Site" Forum ........ or somplace like that.  Gotta' say WOW once again.

One possible suggestion for your new "pit" that I would make is to try to make the "framework" that you are constructing to house the Goflight modules and the glass cockpit monitors look a bit more like a real aircraft main panel in basic shape.  This of course depends on how much ROOM you have to work with  Wink.

The Goflight center pedestal/console is a nice core unit that you don't really have to deal with too much.  However, if you tend to fly "heavies" more than light GA aircraft then you might want to relocate a lot of the radio stack down there and move more of the flight controls onto the main panel or onto a projecting "glareshield" section.

With the existing control setup you have...... I think that a simpit which you construct will be pretty awesome.   That's already a LOT of hardware.

Please keep us all posted of the developments with news and pictures posted here.  In fact.... can you move at least one of the pictures of your current setup from the other post into this Forum?  I think "Homebuild Forum" visitors would be interested in seeing the "starting point"
(not exactly a starting point either  Wink )
you are at.

best,

.................john

That is my intention on final design, right now though, I'm looking at many factors. My soon to be "Flight Room" is 6'x8'. Perfect place for a sim pit. Budget, kinda tight right now. I am starting simple and focusing on functionality and hardware configuration. Mainly the computers... I have a closet under the stairs. The righthand wall of the closet blocks off the storage area under the living room floor. This area also joins the "Flight Room".  The perfect place for an airconditioning unit. I'll feed cool air into the closet where I have, hopefully someday, 6 machines running. I'll run lots of KVM cable into the "Flight Room". By the time I'm done, a couple years from now, I'll have 5 machines running 5 monitors and a sixth machine for the main panel display.  So I need to start with a design which can be easily augmented to a final design. Basically the frame work will be unchanged.

I've had the com panels on the pedestal for a while now, and I'm tired of reaching back to change freqs as often as I do, so I'm moving them to be in front of me. I've placed my MCP, LGT & DME displays onto the pedestal.

With the existing control setup you have...... I think that a simpit which you construct will be pretty awesome.   That's already a LOT of hardware.
Another thing to consider is what I fly... Heavies, GA and fighters. That's why I'm not concerned about a specific aircraft design.  I'll need to incorporate a way to seemlessly shift from my Flight Yoke to my X45 HOTAS

I'll post pictures of my old and new config. I like where I placed the TQ-6 since I can now fit yet another module on the pedestal.
