Hey guys,
I am looking into buying the new Acer Ferrari 3200 laptop. Does anyone have this, or has anyone seen it? I'd just like to know how good it is for gaming, especially flightsim. From what the specs look like, it looks great, but it doesn't necessary mean it's great.
Thanks,
Greg

Hey, it looks good.
The video processor is somewhat weak, being somewhere between the ATI Radeon 9600 and 9600XT equivalent, but that's pretty good for a laptop PC.
The Review I saw showed it had an AMD XP2800+ CPU, so plenty of processing punch there too.
512mb RAM, 80 gb hard drive and DVD, nice rig.
I didn't dare look at the price.
Mainboard: Asus P5K-Premium, CPU=Intel E6850 @ x8x450fsb 3.6ghz, RAM: 4gb PC8500 Team Dark, Video: NV8800GT, HDD: 2x1Tb Samsung F3 RAID-0 + 1Tb F3, PSU: Antec 550 Basiq, OS: Win7x64, Display: 24" WS LCD

It's funny, it ranges from US$1500-3200! In South Africa it is R20499 (US$3200), in UK it's 1400 pounds (US$+-2500), and funny enough it's cheapest by a long way in USA, at US$1900! Funny how that happens!? Huh? I still want to get something like that though. Don't forget it's the 64 processor as well!

So out of all the thousands of members here, no one has this laptop? Must be rare!
Well, does anyone play intense games such as flightsim on laptops? With good processing, memory and a video card?
Thanks,
Greg

I wouldnt buy a laptop. The main reason is its very hard to upgrade them. Because all the parts are jameed into a tight space. Id maybe get one if it had that centrino mobile internet thing.

I use a laptop bt not the one you mentioned. Along with what the previous user said. They are very difficult to upgrade so make sure you get one with a video card installed already as you wont be able to upgrade that to easy. And usually its only the RAM you will be able to mess with

Actually everyone here has a laptop just depends if we are sitting or standing
While on the topic, is it normal for laptops to get hot???
A friend has one and after about 10min it gets to hot to have on your lap. It does seem to run fine but I found the heat to be a issue, is this normal? It seems odd to me.

if the fans are blocked then yes. I find with mine on my lap the fan is unable to get proper circulation and will heat up very quickly. Remember unlike a PC where the parts are spaced out a little and have more air around them, laptop parts dont have that space or free air flow.

But how does flightsim perform on them?
I'll get a good one no matter what, I just want to know how the sim performs on them.

Exactly how it would on a PC of similar abilities. Just make sure it has a video card of some sorts pre installed, preferably not the SIS chip i got in mine.
