My goal in modelling is to create a detailed Li-2. Thanks for the Photos!
(and no, it's not just a matter of repainting a DC-3)

Felix would you like me to send you the full sized images? They're 2048*1536 and about 600 odd Kbs...

Thanks, but these are good enough for my reference collection...
A couple of years ago I purchased scale drawings that are just short of engineering drawings, but photo references are always valuable for the nuances.

I know there were Russian derivatives of the DC-3. I suppose this is one of them.
I only pretend to know what I'm talking about. Heck, that's what lawyers, car mechanics, and IT professionals do everyday.

The Japanese also had a license built version.
One of the Russian versions, the Li-2P, had a variant with a mg turret, and could carry bombs or paratroops.

Is this one of those planes where the USSR got the rights to build the plane, or is this another example of them "aquiring" an example of the plane, keeping it illegally, and copying it (such as the Tu-4 Bull)?

AFAIK The Li-2 is a proper licence-built version of the DC-3/C-47. Whether any money changed hands is a different matter.

There are 2 variants of the Li-2...
One has 'American' cowlings, like the one you photograpehd.
The other one has 'Russian' cowlings, which can be closed completely to keep the cold and the snow out.
Felix/FFDS: Some Li-2 had the small door in the front glassed-in instead of 100% metal, is it possible to make that an option?
Russian planes:
IL-76 (all standard length ones)
,
Tu-154 and Il-62
,
Tu-134
and
An-24RV

Felix - do you need any special close-ups of Li-2? We have a couple in Monino (poor condition and only exterior is accesible for photoshooting). There are VVS and Aeroflot versions. I am going to be there in August and could make a needed shots.
Sad, we lost the only flying Li-2 last month in UUMK
What do you feel when you crash another aircraft?
