I just got the remastered version of the Beatles "Let It Be". It's actually called "Let It Be Naked". It sounds so incredible. So crisp and clean. It's like John, Paul, George and Ringo are in the same room with you!

I understood that Paul McCartney remixed it as he always wanted it to sound. At least, that's what he said in a recent radio interview.

You know, at first I called this sacrilege and stayed away like the plague. 'Let it Be' has always been one of my favorite Beatles songs. I have never been a fan of what Phil Spector did to the album, especially 'The Long and Winding Road' which has been my absolute least favorite Beatles song for decades. But once it is out there, it is canon and not to be touched., especially after 35 years. The new version is just plain incredible! 'The Long and Winding Road, Across the Universe, and Get Back' are so clear, you might think they were recorded yesterday. Let it Be has always been nuked by everyone, but if they had recorded this instead, it would have been totally different. I especially like having the background talking left out.
The only other incidence of altering a performance in post production that I have seen done this well, is The Allmans 'At Fillmore East' where they took a bunch of live tracks and edited them and cut them up a bunch.
BTW, 'The Long and Winding Road' may now become one of my favorite songs...
