How in the world did you pull that off. I think it gets barzar plane of the year award. Grin
I hope you had a back up before this happened. I know what it is like to get so close to finishing then something like this happens. It makes you want to pull your hair out. I do not have a clue as to how this happened. I could not recreate this if I tried.

I think Dread Pirate Roberts was importing from FSDS2. Undecided I'm not suprised this happened, considering the piece of junk that program is.  Gmax, Rhino3D, 3DS Max, anything but FSDS. Tongue Grin

Spock - your statement is illogical, and doesn't take into account from where he exported the model (granted, most of his work has been in FSDS2), nor HOW (it could be that the conversion process/programs he's using insert unwanted objects, etc.

FSDS may be "junk" to you, but for many it's the program of choice.

I second that.

Use whichever program you wish. That is your decision. If you can use these complex 3D modelling applications, not to mention afford to purchase them, good luck to you. By the same token, please don't criticise others for making their own choices or insult the developer of the software by calling his work junk. Angry

FSDS was the only practical tool for creating FS aircraft for many years. It's still capable of creating perfectly acceptable models. Without it I would have lost out on many hours of enjoyment.

Your right, I have no idea how the model in the screenshot came to be.  I was simply assuming.  I just didn't think I'd be insulting anyone at these forums by saying that about the program.  Sorry.

Thou art forgiven.  One thing I have to realize is that what comes out in a post is devoid of the "body language" we use in talking.  Another thing is that this Inspector Poly fellow is basically a prima donna and any insinuation that something he uses may be less than stellar causes a Serious Conniption.

For future reference, it is proper to say that "gmax is the more powerful modelling tool than FSDS".  Ultimately, they are both modelling tools, and in the hands of artists, excellent models can be made  (conversely, gmax has many more ways to let one screw up a model!)

No hard feelings. Sorry if I came over abrupt. I get a little sick & tired of people making comments about FSDS in particular when they very often haven't used it & don't know the history behind it.* Although I don't know him personally I have a great deal of respect for Louis Sinclair & the contribution he's made to our hobby over a period of several years. A large percentage of the FS2000, CFS2, FS2002 & even FS9 aircraft posted on this & other similar sites was created with FSDS1 or 2. I think he deserves our thanks & recognition, not insults & ridicule.

*PS. I'm not accusing you of this as I have no idea of your knowledge of FSDS. I have tried Gmax but have no knowledge of 3DS Max or Rhino3D.

It's not the program that makes the designer, it's the designer that makes the program. In other words, you can put the worst program in the hands of the most capable person, and they will still turn out something great 8)

Yeah, just with the right tool he can do it in a fraction of the time, and as a matter of fact, a crappy program creates armies of crappy designers. Smiley

I think you'll find that as people learn the ropes of a program, they will soon realise if's it's a bad program and then, hopefully, move on to something better Smiley
