Okay, After installing several 1% and loving their realism. I decided to edit my campaign. I did so succesfully, but, when launching a new campaign. I can select any mission on the frontline with a stock aircraft. When I come to using a 1%'er the frontline then says "No Missions Found Affecting This Sector"
Any ideas?

Not sure what it means maybe one of the campaign guys can tell us.

General item on adding 1% to a campaign are:

<Aircraft Type="3gb_mosquito_mkvi">
<Date Month="5" Year="1943"/>
</Aircraft>

Be sure to use the M3D ID *3gb_mosquito_mkvi* not the folder ID 3gb_mosquito_mk_6.  Also they are case sensitive.

They will not add to an existing open campaign.

They will not show up if the campaign date is prior to the in-service date.

If you have a "failure to load" be sure that a specific aircraft name has not been changed & you have for every entry in the campaign a corresponding  plane in the CFS3/aircraft folder.

You can leave planes out or add new ones in with an edit as long as the contents of the aircraft folder contains all the planes in the campaign.xml

Cheers Bear. I was using the wrong filename set for a start, but the entry date. So all that say entered before 1943 need to be entered as saying "1/1/43"?

You should use the actual date example:

Hurricane Mk1a  entered service on 4/24/1940 so it would look like:

<Aircraft Type="3gb_hurricane_mk1 ">
<Date Month="4" Year="1940"/>
</Aircraft>

Spitfire Mk IXc m61 entered service on 07/25/1942 so it would look like:

<Aircraft Type="3gb_Spit_ixc_m61">
<Date Month="7" Year="1942"/>
</Aircraft>

Sorry, but I would like to add the 1% B-17 to a Campaign too. Where do you paste that little bit of text you quoted BEAR?

<Aircraft Type="3gb_mosquito_mkvi">
<Date Month="5" Year="1943"/>
</Aircraft>

Naturally I insert the B-17 title instead of the mosquito, but where does it all go, please?

Is it the campaign.xml, and where is it located?

thanks

There is a folder called "campaign" in the main CFS3 folder.  Click it open & located the campaign you are flying by name: Example Fortress Europe.

The slide down & stick it into the aircraft tree.

You can put the planes into any campaign you want - just be very careful with the planes label as it has to be exact with all - _ and everything else as its case sensitive.

Posted this before someplace hope it helps.

First make a backup copy of your original campaign file.

Then open the campaign file with a text editor and find the line that has <TechTree> on it. After that, you should find a list of aircraft types. It should look like this:

<TechTree>
<Aircraft Type="BF_109G_10">
<Date Month="4" Year="1944"/>
</Aircraft>

Just add the 1% planes to it like this:

<Aircraft Type="3gb_mosquito_mkvi">
<Date Month="5" Year="1943"/>
</Aircraft>

Thanks Gentlemen. I think my problem is that I've gone through every page on this board - about 86 of them, and read several different explanations of how you do this - many of them mutually incompatible. So I have become confused.

One way was to make sure you were already part way into a campaign and then going the documents& settings route to find CFS3 there and identify your cmpsat file to alter. I found the cmpsat file, but no Tech Tree in it. Maybe I hadn't gone far enough in starting the campaign to get the Tech Tree active

Then there's one about altering the campaign.xls in the proper CFS3 directory. Which doesn't work because there is no Tech Tree in there.

Now, I've realised you guys are talking about a campaign folder in the main CFS3 directory, so I'm going to look there now.
Okay, so I've found a file called fortesseuropa.xml, and guess what? When this is opened it actually has a Tech Tree in it. None of the others did.

So the correct instruction should be:
1. Find your Main Combat Flight Simulator 3 directory.
2. Open the Campaigns Folder
3. Open the fortresseuropa.xml

I guess I now do the bit you are all describing, which is to insert the aircraft note in the Tech tree part.
Let's see if this works.

Okay, this seems good. I just duplicate an entry and change one part

<Aircraft Type="I PUT MY AIRCRAFT NAME HERE">
<Date Month="5" Year="1943"/>
</Aircraft>

The "I PUT MY AIRCRAFT NAME HERE" part will be taken from the aircraft.cfg model name, not its folder. Presumably I can keep the date just the same, and maybe pick the earliest date I want to use.

Now I'll see if this works.

Okay, I got an error here, because the fortresseuropa.xml seems to open in html, and I wasn't sure how to copy and paste. So I opened in notepad, made the changes and then found that there was an xml error when I checked in html.

I'm going to see if I can identify this.

Okay, I've fixed this. I can now change the document in notepad without causing errors. I have inserted the "B17G_MollyII" where it used to say B-26c.
I start a new campaign and my first aircraft is....

A B-26c!!!!!
So where's my B-17? Especially when I removed the B-26c.

I'm obviously doing something wrong. Any ideas????

I see the note about campaign date, but how do I find out what the in-service date of the B-17 is?And how come the B-26c shows if I've now removed it from the fortresseuropa.xml?

I shall fool around a little more, then I'm going to have to go watch a Shaw Brothers movie to calm down.

Well it doesn't matter what I do with this method, I can't get the "B17G_MollyII" to show up in the Campaign.
This is what I typed and inserted in the Combat Flight Simulator 3\Campaigns\fortresseuropa.xml, under TechTree

<Aircraft Type="B17G_MollyII">
<Date Month="11" Year="1942"/>
</Aircraft>

I chose that date by copying the date that the B_26c started.

I then removed this entry

<Aircraft Type="B_26C">
<Date Month="11" Year="1942"/>
</Aircraft>

So, effectively I've replaced the B_26C with the B17G_MollyII in this file. I then close and save.

When I start a new campaign for the US, I look at my first available aircraft and it's a B_26C. This is despite the fact that it now isn't listed in the fortresseuropa.xml.
The next available aircraft is a B_26G. There is no sign of the B17G_MollyII.

So what can we conclude? It is impossible to use the B17G_MollyII in a CFS3 Bomber Campaign using this method.

I then tried the other method which is recommended for use in an already existing campaign. You go into Documents and settings\ YOUR USER NAME\My Documents\ Combat Flight Simulator 3\Campaigns \saved \fortesseuropa \YOUR PILOT NAME, and locate a file called 1cmpstat.
Open this and locate a section at the bottom called <Technology>
Since I have started a campaign with the B_26c here, I simply replace the two instances of "B_26C" in the <Techmode model name> line with two "B17G_MollyII" entries. I then save and exit.
When I open the Campaign, my selected aircraft is now the B17G_MollyII and the B_26C is nowhere to be seen.

This sure looks like success to me.

Naturally enough the B-17G now blows up in the UI picture, because I haven't used the fix for big bombers yet. And then the game freezes.
But I think I'll just go into the CFS3 Config and disable UI animations, then there will be nothing to blow up, because there won't be any pictures of the aircraft that are too big for the background.

So I'll go see if this works now.
