...doesn't it want to make you weep, when after spending zillions of hours, (I exaggerate!), to download your new plane, with your 56k modem, only to be told in the "Readme" file, that you now have to find the file xxxsound.zip, xxxgauges.zip, xxxtextures.zip, xxxloads_of_other_things,zip, from everywhere else, before the flippin' program will work... Roll Eyes

...!
I can never understand why the designers don't include ALL the necessary files in the bleedin' download...all in one go... Wink

Well Fozzer,
many guys have the loads_of_extra_files.zip anyway on their rig so you actually save some extra downloads on your tiny 56k modem, esspecially if you are a regular user of third party addons.
Beside most of the bleedin downloads are free so not really a need to complain about it Grin

The thing I like about a "Complete" package download is that I know that EVERTHING is compatible with the particular version of the flight sim that it was designed for...
No in-compatibilities between FS 2002/FS 2004, and no conflict between gauges/textures/panels/sounds, etc... Wink

...!
The difference in size between a complete package and a part package needing additional files is negligable in todays hard drive capacities... Wink

Hi Foz. I can sympathise with what you're saying but Mathias has a very good point. I've also seen other 56k modem users (of which I am one) complaining bitterly that some of these all-singin' & dancin' packages are far too bleedin' big for them to download & asking why they can't be split up into smaller files. What is the poor designer to do I ask myself? ??? It only goes to prove you can please most of the people ... etc... etc... etc. Roll Eyes

The way I see it, most of these huge packages so popular these days include some files that you almost certainly have. I never saw the point in it myself & would much prefer a link to where I can download said files if I need them. It's also possible these files are by different authors who might not like the idea of their files being included in these packages.

PS. It's quite possible that the much-abused designer is also a 56k modem user & splitting large packages up into smaller files is the only practical way to upload them. Wink

This should really be posted in the forum where you downloaded that file.

One of our policies here is to at least have files on site & referenced in the description.

I was indeed sent that Trislander (if that's what you are referring to) but didn't post it because it didn't comply with spot 6 on this page ... http://www.simviation.com/upload.html

I just love it when my little Cessna 152's, dH Beavers, etc, zipped 2-5Mb downloads designed especially for either FS 2002 or FS 2004, contain everything necessary to fly the plane "straight out of the box".... Grin

All I am ever asked to do, is whether to over-write certain gauges in my Gauges folder or not...(I don't... Wink

The conflicts occur when a basic model is designed for FS 2002 and the seperate gauges, textures, sound, etc, from elsewhere, were designed for FS 2004, or vice versa... Cry

Then comes the problem in sorting them all out and hoping to put them all in the right places, with the right air files, .cfg files, etc.... Roll Eyes

It's at that point I feel a headache coming on... Cry

Well Foz my old sausage, Pete has a point. If I'd bothered to read your complaint properly I wouldn't have got involved in this in the first place. Roll Eyes

In the old days it was so simple. Aircraft downloads were comparatively small files with the panel & sound aliased to the default aircraft. They were easy to install & worked perfectly just as they were. If you wanted a particular panel or sound for your aircraft these were posted in the appropriate sections. I always thought this was a far better way of doing things than these huge packages that seem so popular now. Personally, I can do without them & the usual load of useless bumf that comes with them. Angry

Just my opinion Foz old bean. As I said, you can please most of the people most of the time but you can't please everybody. Roll Eyes

When you bought a television set, got it out of it's cardbod box, and it had an on/off button on the front, and a knob for volume, brightness, contrast, and focus, and a dial for tuning in the stations...!

You're right about the TV set & all the other electronic wizardry we're expected to cope with these days. ??? ??? ???

However, I would have thought that putting a few FS files where they belong would be a piece of cake to an old hand like you. Considering how long you've been at this lark you're the one that should be showing me how to do it. Roll Eyes

I rarely do this on the desktop. I have a special folder for all my FS downloads & sort them all out there.

It bugs me when a certain tallented new modeller claimed that his aircraft was FS2002 compatible when he had actually made the .mdl with the newest MakeMDL....

Damn shame as I was following his progres with great interest in this forum.

..and no, I'm not going to embarrass him by naming him. 8)
