Can anybody show me how to set up a saved flight starting at a point say 10miles out from a ILS runway?
I want to practice ILS but can only do it by taking off in the first place- this wastes time.
I find the Baron 58 very sensitive on approach - any tips t get a better hold on things - what is a good final approach speed?

Go to that spot, "10 miles out", hit the ALT key then save the flight.
-If you don't have a Joystick with trim buttons, re-assign two buttons for this purpose. Elevator up and down trim.
Once you have the airplane centered on the localizer and are approaching the glideslope, you should begin "configuring" the airplane. At One Dot below extend the gear. At 1/2 Dot before glideslope intercept, extend the flaps. By the time you are on glideslope, you should have the airplane fully configured and have your approach speed established. I would think about 100-120 kts for the Baron. This is where the trim really comes into play. The key to really hand FLYING an ILS is to hardly fly at all. Trim the the aircraft for a 600-700fpm descent rate and then just make minor corrections.
There are alot of instrument flying manuals and schools that instruct on instrument scan but I have yet to find one that specifies proper scan during the approach. I recommend using the ILS needles as your primary reference and VSI, altimeter and airspeed as secondary, emphasis on VSI with EVERY pitch change.
