Well I've got a new webcam, and it works (on preview), and the audio from the mic seems to work in test mode, so err how do I get online to chat with someone face-to-face?
Is there some good freeware programs for this or any simple techniques I can use?

I would think that your webcam would have come with software???
Also you do know that it is useless unless your chatting with someone who also uses a web cam don't you?  Grin

My ex-wife was getting mad because she could not "see" me while we were chatting. I had a hard time explaining to her that she wouldn't see me because I don't have a camera myself! She was under the impression that with a web cam she could see all! LOL!  Grin Grin Grin Grin
I really don't understand why I married her in the first place Embarrassed Grin

Fret yup I know we need cams and mics at both ends Grin
I was wondering just if there was a universal program to hook up two people without loads of fiddling around and twiddling stuff. A sort of simple chatroom thing for private use...
My webcam came with an installation disc and the camera (cheers Philips, like err no manual and no help on your website Roll Eyes)

i have found that the messenger programs work well for cam chats. MSN AOL and yahoo messenger all work for it. You can get yourself a copy of netmeeting for free i believe or it used to be. thats also used for chats.

LMAO Fret. That almost made me fall out of my chair. Best laugh I've had all week. Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

Sorry Ozzy. I can't be much help. I never had a webcam but I have enough problems with AIM as it is. Hate the blasted thing as it's such a waste of time. I only chat to a selected few old friends - & only when they contact me first.

I did a quick search on Google & wish I hadn't. There's a whole world out there I was blissfully unaware of.  Shocked
I won't post a link - you can find out for yourself if you care to do so. Roll Eyes

No worries Doug, I've got it sussed now. I needed v5.5 of AIM to utilise the webcam and audio facilities, I'd downloaded 5.1 Roll Eyes

Glad you fixed it. I don't dare think of what you will get up to now. Just as well I don't have a webcam. If I was ever in doubt this has convinced me never to get one. Shocked Tongue Grin

...well... Angry...!
If someone is annoying me in real life I like to be able to kick 'em in the nuts, not just look at their grinnin' faces on a web-cam chat show..... Angry

I used to log into "Frustrated Wives.com" web cams at one time... Roll Eyes

Every time I've seen a real-time, web-cam conversation, (using a 56K modem), it's like the image is being sent by UPS to the outer reaches of Alpha Centauri and back again three weeks flippin' later.. Cry...!

Hi Congo. If we were both chatting on MSN Messenger I might be able to see you but I doubt very much that you could see me - cos I don't have a webcam. Roll Eyes If you could see me without one that's more than creepy. It would be a bloomin' miracle. Shocked LOL Grin
