My brother emailed me these pictures of a new Navy fighter on board the USS Abraham Lincoln for sea qualifications on the date of June 18, 2004.  Does anyone know what it is, I'm guessing it's a Northrop product???

That thing looks weird... best guess for the maker: Northrop (looks like a morphed YF-23)

Russian planes: IL-76 (all standard length ones),  Tu-154 and Il-62, Tu-134 and An-24RV&&&&AI flightplans and repaints can be found here

Very clever piece of design work. Am I the only one to see the resemblance to a big bird in shot #2?

The reference is to "Big Bird" of "Sesame Street", the US children's television show.

Looking at the article, it appears to be similar to "Firefox" wherein the "Mig31" is the secret plane

Hhhmmm. a navy stealth jet with forward swingers. sounds russian. i know that the original design for the Sukhoi-47 Burkut was to have these wings, and apparently the next version of the Sukhoi-47, the Sukhoi-49, will have these type of wings. only by then Russia will be so poor that they wont be able to buy any. Anyway. hhmmm. yeh, good design, very efficient, but what's the point? The Navy will soon have the F-35, so what is the point of it? Oh, yeh. USA. I forgot that.

Some people are quite happy being NCOs. These are the pros who run the Navy & all other services. They couldn't do without them.

True...he may have visited the Captain's cabin on "other than social" occasions. Smiley

Maybe shore leave agrees with him, but not the Navy.  Shocked

BTW, the Navy is slated to get the JSF, a stealth fighter.  Not sure of the date it's supposed to enter service.

Russia is going to get so poor... HAHAHA  Grin Grin Grin
I guess that's why 12 Borey-class SSN's have been ordered, along with 4 Akula-class SSBN's and a design for a CVN was also requested, and if it matches the needs of the Rusian Navy 4 will be built, yeah you really made me understand why this is all hapening  Wink

Also Su-47, and MiG 1.42 projects have been re-lived so their entrance into service with RuAF is to happen in the next few years...

The Borey class SSBN's are an outgrowth of the obsolete Delta-IV SSBN's...obviously much greater sophistication than the older brothers, but still based on the old Delta-IV.

The SSBN Akula (NATO reporting name Typhoon) should not be confused with the new order for 4 end-of-class SSN Akula-II's. The Akula-II will be superceded by a new SSN class, of which the Russian Navy hopes to aquire 22...should they manage a 4-fold increase in the Naval budget. Smiley

Hard to keep secrets from the Western Powers when they are right there in the dockyards helping to scrap old Victor II's and III's.  Wink

Although it was a good try, if you copy the pic and zoom in.....you can actually see through it and see people standing there. As for the JSF, my father and brother happen to be involved with it, the plane itself does not look like the JSF. From afar maybe, but up close, not even close. Is a cool picture though.
