Well, I think I have a little bit of a problem.  I like to write songs for classical guitar, but I don't ever know what to name them.  So, I just end up numbering them, (Song I, Song II, etc).  Does anyone have any suggestions for coming up with more original names for my songs?  (Or are these generic titles so unique that it's fine the way they are?  Wink)

You could name them Opus 1, Opus 2 etc.

Quote:
opus

\O"pus\, n.; pl. Opera. [L. See Opera.] A work; specif. (Mus.), a musical composition.

Note: Each composition, or set of pieces, as the composer may choose, is called an opus, and they are numbered in the order of their issue. (Often abbrev. to op.)

As Woodlouse said: Anything goes.  The classical guitar repertoire as I know it might be better referred to as "compositions" rather than songs, assuming your music has no lyrics, but we get the idea.  You might check the web for CD's by these artists:  Paulo Bellinati, Manuel Barrueco, John Williams (the guitarist), Marco Pereira, maybe others, to get an idea of titles and maybe how it's done.  It's difficult, yes, but titles do not necessarily have to be complicated.  Single words might work, or word combinations, either logical or just stuck together.  In my recording days years ago, when I needed titles, I would sometimes watch TV for quick ideas, some would stick, some would not.  For me, TV would sometimes trigger word ideas that might not have occurred otherwise, I'd come up with maybe a dozen titles within a night, then figure out what title should go with what composition.  Good luck, you'll get the hang of it!

Thx for the responses everyone.  I know that they technically aren't songs since they weren't written to be sung, but since I'm working in an informal environment (at home by myself  Grin) I just throw around the word 'song'.  It's easier to type than composition.  Wink

Anyway, I'll try out some of these ideas.  Thx again for your help.
