I am having major problems with trying to put my computer together. Actually, I'm having someone put it together for me. Aynways, it is having a hard time booting up. Here are the specs I have on it right now. (Check my sig) I was over there when he booted it up, and saw what it did. The fans don't really come on, but the computer starts up. He gets a picture on the screen once in a while. The fan on the processor works though. Any help would be very appreciated!  Cry

Read the MSI manual and make sure it's put together correctly.

Boot into BIOS and set up the parameters according to the manual.

The Boot screen should correctly identify the RAM type and amount, and the CPU should be correctly identified as well.

The RAM should configure automatically and correctly via it's SPD modules.

If anything is amiss there, then it's not configuring correctly and a BIOS adjustment may need to be made manually, though this is not probable.

The RAM is important on those 64bit systems, some ram simply won't boot them. Corsair should be fine but if it's double sided sticks, It's not officially compatible in a 64bit rig.

Disconnect all other hardware until you are getting solid and correct boot sequences to isolate other hardware problems away from the core components. ie.....RAM mainboard, PSU, CPU video and keyboard only.

Just built a near identical system to that for my friend except he has an AMD64 3200.

Had no probs here, as congo says read the MSI manual and ensure everything is connected correctly to the mobo.  I set the Bios to boot off of CD put Win XP disk in drive and off I went.

I am concerned though, why aren't all the fans coming on?  Has your friend ever built a system before?  Has he plugged both power supply plugs into the mobo? there is one big plug and one small one with 4points.  Both come from the PSU and must be plugged into the mobo.  If you do not plug the smaller 4point one in your CPU will not be getting any power. Least I think thats what that plug does.

Let us know how it goes!!

Yes he has built several before, even for some companies. He came over a week ago or so, and put all of my old parts into my new case (because it came early, and I hated the old case) and he did everything fine. It was running exactly as it had been when it was installed by the factory.

And congo, I will have to check about the double sided memory thing. I'm not exactly sure what I have, but I'll check.

I have not really been around at all while he was building it. I just gave it to him and sent it off. I'll probably go over there sometime today and do all the stuff you guys told me. Thanks!!!  Smiley

The ram I put in my mates was Corsair. to be exact it was Corsair XMS3200C2PT  1gig of the stuff on two 512 sticks.  I know dual band doesnt have a big effect on the AMD64 mobo's though.  I am sure it is double sided stuff, well lookin at it it has chips on both sides of the PCB, but hopefully it should work for you as the mobo I put it onto is exactly the same as the one you have purchased the K8T Neo FISR.  Didn't know it wasnt supported though, I will keep it in mind if anything starts screwin up on his PC, Cheers Congo, I know DDR ram is very fussy stuff!!!

You may want to check to see whether or not the RAM is ECC or Non-ECC and check to see which one the mobo supports.

That board uses non ecc ram. It would be right you'd think, the supplier should have known what to bundle.
The double sided chips should work, it's just that the chipset was not designed to specifically support it. Kingmax double sided ram modules failed to boot on a similar board in a test. Also, many modules failed on other early boards of that genre.

At any rate, it's unlikely the ram is the problem, unless it's a true mismatch. I'd be looking at other solutions.
