Thinking of Getting FS9 (Read 314 times)

I have FS2002 and have spent many hours flying (before that I also spent countless hour on CFS and CFS2. Should I get FS9? What are the improvments over the previous sim?

A lot of it comes down to your system specs.
I upgraded and I get better performance with FS9 than I did with 2k2.
Pretty clouds, nice places to see........

Like ozzy says Fs9 is probably one of the most graphic intensive programs out there. But that does not mean you can not enjoy it with what i call a descent system.
my system spes are as follows
windows ME pent III operating at just under 1 ghz
640 meg ram
60 gig hard drive
FX5200 128 meg DDR AGP 3D card
I have all the sliders maxed out and I am still getting descent rates.
If your system has less than 128 meg ram you might want to consider buying more ram. And at least a 3d card with 64 meg ram anything less is not going to cut it
But of corse with the minimum required system you can still play the game but you will not be able to enjoy all of the great effects or scenery out there.
The more the better. 8)

If your system can handle it then go for it. ACOF isn't any more buggy than FS2002. They fixed some bugs and intruduced some more but it's a tad bit more stable than 2002 and some of the eye candy is 100% improved.

I've got a mid range computer and I haven't regretted the switch at all so if you have a decent system ACOF is a good buy. There is, of course, plenty of room for improvement but in my opinion FS9 is better than 2002.

My system is a p 4 (2.52 gigahertz) with 512 mb RAM. Graphics card is 64 mb. Ge-force 4 I think. FS2002 and CFS2 both run well on it.

I think from the looks of your system you should be fine with it.i have about the same system except the video card and ram.i am running a 2.0 GHZ with an ATI 9600 pro with a gig of ddr ram on win xp home and i am verry happy with the settings i have with the sim.so i would say go for it its much better sim than fs2002.

Hi

I made the switch and found the graphics much improved, but was disappointed by the choice of aircraft. Many of the aircraft I migrated to 2k4 a lot of the time don't work properly and the settings are totally different.

Plus there dosn't seem to be much development ot there, many people have stuck with the 2k2 and hope they work in 2k4.

And theres still no fix for the airport buildings being out of allignment or the taxiway signs (sigh!). Undecided

Or maybe wait a year for the next installment....

In the bad ole days of 8086 XT with a 10Mb Hd, it was the ultimate test to run FS2 with a Herc Graphics card. There weren't too many people actually played the game. The situation is similar today, but there are better tests of a system out there. FS9 is a good test, but it's a great game and there are lots of great players, some of the greatest are right here on SimV. Grin

hiflyphil,alot of those airport taxie way problems can be fixed with the afcad program and many other of the few bugs can be fixed by editing the cfg file.the information to fix the few small problems are out there if you seek them out.i am not to shure if i would hold my breath on a fs2006 version of the sim.its like we were to see a microsft train sim 2 a year ago and nothing as of yet.i just dont know for shure if there will be a fs2006 or not.but after useing fs2004 i would never go back to fs2002 again.its just not the same any more to me.
