I have just started trying to fly jets in FS2002 and CFS2.  My question is in FS2002 how do I know what percent my power is set at?  Is there a gauge on the jet panels equivalent to the tach on a prop plane?  This is not a problem with CFS2 because the HUD shows the throttle setting.

On a turboJET(727-DC8-737100)You would use engine RPM and monitor Turbine Temp or EPR(engine pressure ratio). On a turboFAN(Lear 45-777-747-757-Airbus)you monitor N1 and Turbine Temp again. On some aircraft fuel flow or N2 will also be used, but generally, N1 is used on modern jets as the primary reference for setting power.

.....so I loaded up the plane and moved to Middle-EEEE..........OIL..that is......

Hi!
Ottol is right! The gauge that you are looking for is the EPR or the N1!
The EPR gives you how much the engine is accelerating the air flow from the suction to the exaust (thrust ratio),and the N1 is for how much rpm the FAN and/or the low pressure turbine is going at!
Cheers!

Thank God for let me fly!

Don't know why RR and PW still uses the EPR. That must  a thing left from the days before there was an actual fan in the jets. But since more than 80% of the thrust comes from the fan (high bypass) one would think it's most logical to use N1  ???

Well in RR's case, they use triple spool engines, but PW has no excuses  Grin

Edit: Is EPR short for Exhaust Pressure ratio, or ENGINE Pressure Rartio? Since you compare the ratio between intake and exhaust?  ???
Anyone knows for certain?  Kiss

Edit2: Ottol, as a 737 fanatic, the 737-100 is indeed a turboFAN aircraft, equipped with two  Pratt & Whitney JT8D7 turbofans.  Smiley

I DO stand corrected. The 737-100 AND the 727 both use the JT8 which is has a very narrow bypass section of ducted air. Two examples that I DO know are the Lear25(CJ610) and the T38(J85).

Ahhhhhhh........it's much simpler than you thought. The INTAKE(obviously at the front of the engine(regardless of AIRFRAME orientation;IE Kingair)) and the EXHAUST(The BACK of the engine).

Between the front and back of the engine IS the ENGINE.
Ergo the difference(ratio)from front to back would be the ENGINE pressure ratio.
