My friends at the History Channel (should be compulsory viewing for everyone under the age od 30) have been advertising a "WORLD PREMIER" to be broadcast on Sunday here, of recently found (presumably misplaced) aerial film of the D-Day landings.

Apparently, there were hourly flights (numerous each hour) over the beaches, but the films were lost or something. They have never been seen. I'm led to believe that computer enhancing technology has been able to discern and solve a number of the "mysteries" or "controversies" surrounding the Omaha events. We won't see the enhanced films because they are apparnently too graphic, and also out of respect for those who are clearly seen being slaughtered. Also there is mention of the DD Tanks 'floundering' as they did.
I must admit, with all due respect to those very brave men, I would love to see those enhanced close-ups  etc.

Definitely a "Don't Miss It" when it comes to town!!  Grin Wink

I think this is the show that was on on Monday night. I don't think it cleared up any mysteries and it was mostly reconstruction with a few interveiws with D-Day vets thrown in. Nothing really new, or at least nothing I'd not seen or read before. I was expecting a show based around aviation and recon pilots but it was more about the ground forces with the odd recon photo and one P-38 pilot thrown in. Good but not great.

I hope it's not the one you saw Hawk. They've been building it up as a big "World Premier" - "Never before see" footage of events etc etc.
But knowing the media, you may well be right.

We shall see..........I thinks it's called "D-Day - The Lost Evidence"

Does that sound familiar?  Grin Wink

Yeah, that's the one. It's been on a couple of times this week now. If you are at all interested in the D-Day landings it is well worth a watch but as I said, it did not contain anything I'd not seen or read before.
There have been loads of D-Day programs on this last week with a whole load to come over the weekend also. Us history buffs will get through a few video tapes me thinks.
