I spotted some ununsual things at the museum yesterday. Here's a few examples.
They didn't mess around in the time of King George IV. This is a replica of a genuine notice.
I have no idea what the other numbers mean. ???
The way things are going these signs might make a come-back - sooner rather than later.
Among this display of house-bricks is the perfect contraceptive. You would need 2 for it to be most effective.
Here's a close-up.
For those "furriners" among you Durex is the trade name of the London Rubber Company. The two ladies standing beside me thought it was funny anyway.
This is a canoe made of concrete. Apparently it floats.
Seems I can't get far away from aeroplanes wherever I go. I never expected to see this full-sized mockup of a Lancaster fuselage. Here's the cockpit. The pilot is a mannequin.
I was going to say dummy but didn't like to be rude.
Looking the other way. The radio operator & navigator positions.
Now, wasn't that interesting? LOL

Yep very interesting Doug. I like that first one. It would be a good idea to bring it back in I think.
As for the second, - that could be put up around London most days and no-one would complain. Actually they'd all probably say it was silly, no-one could possibly go that fast.

"Transported for Life" ? Wouldn't that have tempted someone? After all, free transportation for the rest of your life paid for by the courts?

Doesn't that have something to do with Naval impressment? I don't think you'd like that very much.
I only pretend to know what I'm talking about. Heck, that's what lawyers, car mechanics, and IT professionals do everyday.

"Transported for life" means being shipped to the penal colonies, usually Australia. This involved a journey of several months by sailing ship in terrible conditions. Many convicts died during the trip. They had often committed what would be regarded now as petty crimes such as stealing a loaf of bread. Those that survived were the ancestors of many modern Australians who are proud of their heritage. Length of sentence varied but it was apparently rare for anyone to return to Britain once their sentence was served - so basically all sentences, no matter the crime, were life sentences.

Stop spoiling the story with facts. I like my reasoning better.
However, it is an interesting collection of "oddities" you've posted.

Merely doing my best to educate this 'orrible lot. 'Tis an uphill task. Not sure it's always appreciated.

Thank you. I'm rather fond of oddities, having been regarded as one myself for most of my life. Even my dear Mum didn't understand me but I made her laugh. 8)

I must confess that when I saw the title of this thread, I thought it would contain a collection of your baby photos, but I wondered if photography had been sufficiently developed then.

Even colour photography had been developed by the time I arrived on this planet screaming & protesting but I have very few photos of me in my young days. I wonder why? LOL

Maybe that would be appropriate or more likely the Chamber of Horrors. Not being familiar with this Ripley's of which you speak I consulted the oracle.

I note that you have one such establishment in Orlando while the nearest one to me is in Blackpool. I've never been there, Ripley's not Blackpool - or Orlando.
