Hey guys,

I just downloaded the FS2004 MakeMDL SDK ( i've been running on the FS2002 version, but i works just fine for FS2004 ). Anyway, when i export my model to FS - i get a thing that says it couldn't export it, any ideas how to fix the thing?

Thanks,

Mike

Flight Simulator Model Exporter error

MakeMDL was not found, or failed to convert the model specified in 'C:\gmax\meshes\box' to a .MDL file. Check your system path to ensure MakeMDL is on it.

The following is a dumb question but:

What does the log file say?  (box.log or something like that in the same folder you're exporting to?)

Have you tried to export models several times?
Because I noticed that in most cases makemdl reports
errors without any real reason... ???

I just try to do the same export several times and ussually finally makemdl gets tired in it's attempts to fool me and  it exports model successfully Grin

Anyway check you installed makemdl and all stuff around in proper places as it described in readmes...

Here's a rookie question.  Smiley

Does MakeMDL work both ways?  Will it UN-compile an MDL file?

No - just one-way gmax (or actually, x-file) to mdl/bgl

I know what you mean, but there always is a reason, sometimes we're just not aware of it, for example, once i tried to export a plane that was 6 inches long, MakeMDL gave me an error message and i didn't know why, later, when i scaled the model to 1000% it didn't give me any error message - so i guess it's got a problem with the size of the model Tongue

Oh well, the dreaded colocated vertices due to faulty inch2meters conversion Grin
Mike, have you checked wether the msxml4.dll is located in your Windows\system folder?
If not copy it over from your FS9 main root.
Just shooting into the dark.

Aha, getting closer.
and if you copy all three of those xml dll's over to both the system and system32 folders?
chance is though that there is also something with your geometry.
Have you tried exporting a simple box or something just for testing? If it works then we know that the dll stuff is as it should be. also, your units are set to meters both in the preferences tab and the units setup?

Mathias, there s no need to worry about location
of msxml,it  always installs itself in proper folder,
and makemdl always founds it ,this is not a problem...

Yeah, if you download the complee application off the MS site, but not if you just get the SDK and don't think about downloading and installing MSXML Wink
My thought was in that direction actually and it looks as if I wasn't  all that wrong Tongue
