How about a flyable jet engine. Basically, just a modern jet engine with wings and wheels. It should be simple enough considered the fact that alot of planes require them while designing, so basically its just building a plane without the plane. Grin

There is one, a German design. It's a Focke-Wulf TA-183, it's here on SimV. They even managed a cockpit for you to sit in! Grin

It probably doesn't meet the "modern" criteria though...
