here is the sitation. dont laugh but i currently use an Average non-f/f Microsoft Sidewinder. my excuse is, i like the feel of it but that is only an excuse.

anyways, my friend purchased a 'logitech wingman force feedback 3D digital' joystick but it wouldnt work on his laptop as it uses a serial port.
Having a serial port myself he asked whether i wuld want it for £20.

should I buy. Of course i will be keeping the Sidewinder as backup!

thanks

ant

Highly recommended, and you are getting it for half price... Wink...!
(Mine cost me £39:99).
Just make sure the plug matches the socket at the rear of your computer...Game port/USB.
You may also need another spare power socket to accomodate the power-pack... Wink...!
It has built-in force-feedbck which can be disabled, if required, through Joystick Properties... Grin...!

Have fun...!

Paul.

don't do it... it's antique (15 pin port) and underpowered

IF you are going for a logitech get the Strike Force 3d, has the biggest FFB motors the PCB can handle and more buttons than you'll ever need

ahhh, that's a good deal!

Also, Atotti, if you have a mainboard with onboard AC'97 sound codec, would you tell me if the stick works? My gameport MS Sidewinder FFB isn't supported at all on this type of mainboard.

The AC'97 sound codec will not support the midi channel the stick requires for FFB. Not even if it is disabled and a soundcard is installed!

I'm pretty sure the stick you are getting has a GAMEPORT connector and not a SERIAL port connection.

Oh, and don't laugh, but my OLD standard MS Sidewinder is still the best stick I ever owned. So, don't get rid of just yet!

Hi all...!
I have an AMD approved Motherboard, Gigabyte GA7 VT600, and it was VITAL for me to dis-able the on-board Game port, and the on-board Midi port, in Bios, to enable my joystick, (Microsoft Sidewinder FF joystick)*, to work from the game port on my Creative Labs 1024 sound card.... Wink
Otherwise, it would not recognise my joystick when plugged in, (a port ID conflict I suspect)... Roll Eyes...!

Cheers all...!

Paul.

*after my MS FF joystick gave up the ghost recently... Cry..., I have replaced it with the Logitech Wingman Force 3D...(with a USB plug)... Grin...!
Very pleased with it... 8)...!
