Here's the Dove I've been teasing you with. Wink

The Jersey Airlines Heron flew in with some passengers. The chap under the engine is the captain so I couldn't really ask him to move. I mentioned that I used to see them regularly in the old days. He said it's a pity they weren't still in service. This one has pneumatically operated disc brakes from a jet fighter (I forget which) as the original brake bags have been impossible to get hold of for many years. The decision by Dunlop to stop supplying parts is what killed off the Dove & Heron almost overnight. Angry

Here's the piece de resistance. The most beautifully restored DH Dragon you ever did see. It's immaculate. When I returned to get some better shots it had left. Angry Angry

Who is that annoying person in the white hat in the last shot Doug? I trust you fed him feet first into the nearest prop? Grin
Those are awesome photos, I didn't realise any Doves were still flying. Strange looking, yet possessing a unique beauty.

Thanks again Doug

If you like I can edit out the man with the white had and replace him with something much more interesting. A cloud for example... Not that he would look much different... Cheesy

I prefer the Dove. I owe my fortune (such as it is) to the Dove & Heron. Cheesy

Certainly is. We had 2 there for most of the weekend. Wink

It was never one of my favourites.

Fine weekend of shooting....at least you didn't have to wait for processing, and pay for the film this would have taken, if you had done it " the old way ".  8)

Thanks Ken. As you say, this would have cost a small fortune. I can now take almost as many shots as I want. This takes a while to get used to. Old habits die hard. Wink

Thanks Ant. I've never been much good with a camera. My brother is the photographer in the family. My shots pale in comparison with most I see in this forum & I'm a tad nervous about posting them. I've been attending this sort of event for most of my life but never bothered much with taking photos. I'm now trying to make up for lost time & these are just a few I should have taken many years ago when I saw aeroplanes like this almost every day. They are for me but I'm delighted that you & others enjoy them. Cheesy

Sadly the Miles aircraft are neglected by the FS community just as they were in real life. The company never got the credit it deserved. The two brothers (Fred & George) & Fred's wife Blossom were talented & innovative designers, right up there with the best. They were seen as mavericks & once you upset the establishment you might as well give up. What they achieved was mainly due to their own efforts & enthusiasm. Unfortunately this is not an isolated case in this country.

I did find a few Miles aircraft for FS98/2000 once. They were all by the same designer who was obviously a Miles enthusiast like me. Unfortunately these were not that brilliant. I decided to start creating my own collection, mainly for me, but sadly lost the lot when my HD suddenly fried last year. I have never forgiven myself for not backing up. Roll Eyes

Nice stuff Doug, very nostalgic.

I had the pleasure of a "corporate" flight around the top area of New Zealand in one when one of my bosses decided to write it off to "location and area familiarity." I suspect this may have been about 15 years ago.

It was a great day out and I've never forgotten it - sadly I have no idea what happened to the Dove, I hope it's being looked after somewhere locally.

p.s.  - have just had the local photo shop sniff at some of my recent digital efforts - you've got nothing to apologise about.

I got hooked on the Aerovan with Dennis Simanaitis' Aerovan for FS98 ...

I am quite envious! Wish they had fly-ins like that around here. Sadly though, I have yet to hear about any.

FANTASTIC shots!
