The following is supposedly a true story relating a situation that actually occurred in Los Angeles.
The Marines were backing-up LAPD on a call that someone had broken into a store.
At the scene, the cop told the Marines to "cover" him as he approched the store (to police, "cover" means to point your weapons in the direction of the threat, to Marines it means lay down a base of fire!).
The Marines promptly laid down a base of fire. The Marines fired 178 rounds before they stopped shooting.
The thief, probably a little scared at this point, called 911 and reported, "They're shooting at me!".
(I kinda doubt it's true. I may be wrong, but isn't the military supposed to stay out of things like that??? Still funny though)

Not true. US military does not assist police forces (In US).

Not sure of the spelling, but the "Posse Comitatus" Act actually makes it illegal for US military forces to engage in civilian law enforcement except in very well defined circumstances...mostly due to national emergency or armed insurgency.

Very true, and even in those cases it seems to be the job of the National Guard, not the military, so I would tend to be incredulus of this myself. Very funny though.
Since it is California, it is kind of beliveable though.
Any moment, everything can change, Feel the wind on your shoulder, For a minute, all the world can wait, Let go of your yesterday. Can you hear it calling? Can you feel it in your soul? Can you trust this longing? And take control, Fly! Open up the part of you that wants to hide away! You can shine, Forget about the reasons why you can't in life, And start to try, cause it's your time, Time to fly. - H.D., Fly
