Heya guys, I saw this post on Airliners.net a while back and just wondered what you guys thought? Personally mine is the 747, I love the way it 'lumbers' down the runway and then in one smooth movement the wings flex and the beast takes to the sky. Thanks and looking forward to your replies..... Roll Eyes

P.S If you like a non-commercial a/c then please comment in your post.

From the above it has to be the 747. For such a large aircraft it's extremely graceful. It always looked right to me & is my preferred choice for a long-distance flight.

My favourites are not listed. The Boeing/Stearman PT-17 "Kaydet" & B-17 "Flying Fortress". Wink

Well, no one has mentioned that they love the 757, so that's my job! When waiting at EGGP last year for a flight back to EGAA, I watched a Britannia 757-200 being prepared for a flight. And it struck me that it's a really beautiful bird.

We also have a regular 757 at EGAA in DHL new colours, and it looks fantastic. I was really happy to get the POSKY 757 painted in DHL and Britannia colours so that I could admire it all over again!

777.
Alot of people dont realise the massive size of this aircraft and the power it holds in its two engines. Its one of if not the most technologically advanced aircraft flying, and also due to its unique cabin, the most spacious and comfortable. Although ask again in 5 years and i will almost certainly be saying the 7E7

Well, the only aircraft I've flown for FS is the default 737, 747, and 777. But out of those I choose the 747. I love taking those long haul, overseas flights. I've also been noted to make nice, smooth landings with it...usually  Grin

In real life I guess it would be the 777. I don't fly them of course (I'm only 15) but I've had more experience with it than the others. Once at Boeing Field in Seattle, I watched a 777 (Boeing Colors, I guess?) thunder down the taxiway, take off, and roar into the skies. It was an awesome moment. Here's a pic of it from Airliners.net. The picture shows it landing and the next day I watched it take off

Very true Craig, the 777 is lightyears ahead of my beloved 737, which is still built around a 1960's design  Cry.
I'm currently reading Continental's 777 AOM (1.900 pages of aircraft pornography  Grin ) and I must say Boeing has done a masterpiece.

Indeed, I've flowen on BA 747-436's more than any other boeing plane.

I heard that 7E7 is a prototype name. Its really going to be called the 787.....I THINK I read this was in an article in Aviation Week magazine a few weeks ago.

The "717" isnt a Boeing design, Its a McDonnel Douglas MD-95.

Actually, "the" 717 is the second time that Boeing has used designation, as this was previously allocated to the military C-135/KC-135 family.

Useless info I guess....

its possible it'll become the 787, but if it does it will have to be soon, or it will be forever imprinted on the publics mind as the 7e7. I have also heard it would start a new line of numbers from 808. Only time will tell

Tsunami- That plane you watched Takeoff in the "Boeing Scheme" was the first ever built 777-300ER! You are one lucky Guy! I bet the roar of those GE 90-115Bs was awesome!

I voted 747.  In majesty, beauty, impressiveness (is that a word!?), size, and feeling of power, the 747 cannot be beat!

Wow is it really that famous? (777-300ER?!) It was an awesome sight though. I still wonder after it took off where it went. I do know though that prior to its visit in Seattle it was in Sydney, Australia  8) A beautiful plane!

What i dont get is why they dont replace the 747's engines with GE90-115Bs. i mean, they would double, no, triple the power, and they dont eat up more fuel than the originals. i design planes, and most of my bomber designs use the GE90-115B cos it has so much power and range.

their size and weight dont make it a viable option. The ground clearance on the test engine they used on the 747 was less than 5cm one heavy landing and wave bye bye to all said engines.

IMHO, size and weight is the issue, not the ground clearance. If Boeing really wanted those Ge90's they would just slung them directly under the wing, skipping the elegant struts. Just like they had to do with the first 737's

Akula_dude, the total ZFW would rise skyhigh, while passenger capacity would be un changed. So here you have a plane that weighs much more but can't accomodate more passengers. Now is that economical  Smiley

good point. but i do like the engine. too bad it's too big for a fighter (imagine an F-16 with 115000lb of thrust Shocked), but it's an excellent engine for powering bombers and civilian jets.

My loyalties are split. The 720 (a hot rod 707) was my first commercial flight back in '79 I think (G-ALKM or something like that). Monarch Airlines Luton to Venice and return. I remember plucking up the courage (despite very off hand attendants) and getting on the flight deck at FL400 approaching Paris at night on the return trip. A real buzz for a 13 year old on a school skiing trip. Beat the skiing by miles....

Then again, I've had some good trips on the 757. Worked for the CAA at one time and rode jump seat LHR - EDI - LHR all the way on a 757, which was good, and done similar trips when I worked for AERAD when it was still owned by BA. A truly beautiful LHR-FCO-LHR trip when all sorts of funny things went wrong Shocked, but with a breathtaking return over the alps at dusk and cloudbusting into LHR off the BIG VOR after sunset. Utterly gorgeous. But probably the most amazing take off I've had in a 75 was one cold February afternoon with few pax and not too much fuel on a LHR_MAN shuttle when I had another 'familiarisation flight' on the jump seat. We departed R/W 09R and were airborne as we passed the westernmost cargo shed. That's a take off roll of 2000 feet!!! I checked it out on the chart when we returned just to make sure. Still, no more flights like that as I don't work for an airline anymore.

Sorry to bore you all, but it was nice to reminisce.

of course it's the 737 for me.  Although, I do like the glass cockpit of the 717 which is the main bird flown by AirTran..

wow, that's exactly how I feel aswell Yoda, great stuff  Grin

That glasscockpit is a replica of the MD11 (well almost), which is why it difers so much from the Boeing glasscockpit interface, I like it however Smiley
