One warning, you may find parts of the world not mapped, so don't be freaked out when you are flying over absolutely nothing, also be careful, it is easy to crash in those areas.

I did the around the world trip flight a while ago, when i first got FS9.  I came across a few ares that were un-mapped.  I have just looked around some parts of the world now and could not find them.  It may have been due to the old graphics card i was using at the time.
I definetly saw them though, just can't remember where  ???

Could you have been near Bermuda???

In answer to the question about times, it should take about 48 hours in a 747 to fly around the world.  Longer if you take a more scenic route.

Many people have done this in a variety of aircraft, most notably Tipster in a Baron.  Enjoy yourself and keep us updated.

Hey! Yes I have been around the world many times (about 5 or more both ways  Grin) I have flown around in a Boeing 747, 777, the Learjet 45, a floatplane, and a variety of other aircraft. Of course it took only a week for the 747 and 777 flights. About three weeks for the Learjet, and my grand adventure I managed to achieve in the floatplane took three months and I covered over 100 different cities worldwide. I was pooped out after that one, lol. Good Luck on your travels and welcome to SimV!  8)

I just passed the half way point on my first trip.  I've done 16 legs so far at an average of 1.6 hrs each gate-to-gate.  Total 25.1 hrs so far.

I'm flying the Stratojet Excalibur so in a 747 this trip would probably take 2 to 3 times as long.

I keep most of my trips under 2 hrs just because I don't have a lot of time.  If you fly longer legs you'll spend more time at cruise but you'll see fewer cities.

You could always time compress it. I always do, well only for jet flights. I don't use time compression with props.  Grin

I'm not travelling around the world, but did a trip from Brussels to the Americas ( North and Central) doing 1 to 2 hour flights; I always took real airlines. Currently i'm heading for home on a 9 hour flight from Los Angeles to London. Id still love to see the far East, so i might be heading there next.

Just enjoy your flights. Lots of different planes keep it interesting for me.

Good luck on your trip!

Flies2little,

There's not a thing in the world wrong with a 10+ hour flight.  But when I fly I like to sit there in front of the screen the whole time and other stuff around the house eventually needs attention.  So for me a 10+ hour flight or even a 3 hour flight is generally not feasible.

Now one time, though, I did happen to have most of a day to myself so I fired up the default 747 and flew for about 4 hours.  That was a lot of fun.

What does RTW stand for? Sounds like a big accomplishment though! Anyway I only use time compression on the really long flights but I only use it to 4x. I don't use it on prop aircraft though  Wink

I've only had to make an emergency landing once. It was about a year ago when I still played FS2002 and it was in a southeast Asian country on a flight from Signapore to Kathmandu. I can't believe I remember it, but it was a really nice emergency landing I re-fueled and took off  8)

I was once flying around the Alaskan Wilderness and my engine quit on me. I managed to find a small lake and land on the beach. After landing I discovered that the tank selector on the panel wasn't marked clearly. I had no problems after switching it to another tank Grin

Yea, i dont know how you guys do it. I am currently planing on trying to fly KALB down to long island (bahamas not New York) in a Lancair Legacy. I figure about 6 hours total in 2 legs. I have been trying to make the flight for the last 2 school vacations, havent found the time. You think you would if you can get going at 240 something knots ground speed, with a small head wind at 8,000'. Not bad for a little two seat prop.

It is hard to control the planes on time compression, but I only time compress it when I am at cruise  Wink Everything else is played at normal time such as turns, landings, takeoffs, ect.

Also your rank as a member at SimV depends on how many posts you make. After you make a certain amount of posts, then your rank goes up  Grin

I've been Around the world in a Meljet Boeing 777-300ER in 'World Tour' colors.  From JFK towards ZUUU, refuel and back to US, landed in AK to refuel then JFK.
All around the equator!

I take off one morning, set it to autopilot, go to college, come back and play the radio in the plane onto track:
Aqua - Around the world

And let it fly til it gets low on fuel, even heading corrections had to be made due to deviation.
Around the world...Around the world...Around the world...

Wanna know how I got from JFK to ZUUU?  Ditch the passgeners, only weigh yourself and add 10 to 20 lbs for personal supplies on board and put that in the payload, overload the fuel, this is my ticket to around the world Grin

Nice stuff midnight.
You do know that you can use the GPS to program a whole route and then tell the autopilot to follow it.

I dream of the days when I have time for a RTW in a small prop.  I would love to do it in my caravan.
I once flew from Kenya up to Germany with it, it took ages  Tongue .

Ever tried to do a GPS direct route from KJFK to ZUUU ?
It goes near the north pole and over it to the other side of the earth, since this way is shorter to save fuel.
But that's not what I wanted to do, I wanted to go around the equator where the heat is, no more winter for me.

No, to be honest the GPS is so complicated to use that I still havnt worked out exactly how to prgram it.

I do know that it can be programmed and that the autopilot when switched to NAV can follow the GPS.

To make a flight path appear on your GPS, push "WPT" then the cursor button at the bottom right side of the GPS. Then click the smaller arrow that points right and put in an airport code (EX: KSEA) Then push enter on the GPS twice to activate it. You should now have a red (or pink  Grin) line that will direct you to that airport. Then if you want autopilot to follow the path, turn on the NAV switch. You can find more info on GPS usage in the Learning Center  Wink
