Yesterday we left off in Matruh Egypt. Today it's on to Cairo;
I felt like a ten-year-old boy again on Christmas Eve. In the sense that I could not sleep because I was so excited. I had had a restless night. Tossing and turning, constantly loking at the clock to see how much time had passed.
Around four o' clock I decided to get up and get going. I wasn't going to get any sleep anyway, right? I got to the airport around 5:30 and started to load and fuel Peggy up.
I rolled out onto the runway, brought the throttle forward, and was in the air around six.
Outside, I watched the sun rise infront of me as I climbed and fought a strong cross wind.
As the sun's light drenched Egypt...
About an hour after I left Matruh, I reached Alexandria.
Alexandria, the intellectual center of the ancient world, and there I was flying over it!
But Alexandria would have to wait, my destination for the day was Cairo. I turned inland to find the Nile.
Along the Nile was lots of farm land, even through the river did not overflow anymore, the farms seemed to be doing well. I guess those irrigation systems really worked.
At about 7:30 I was in Cairo. I swung my approach out wide to fly over the pyramids...
And then I turned back to the Cairo International.
Less hesitant than the night before, Peggy came down and kissed the runway gently.
I taxied off the runway and followed the signs to parking. Once there I shut down the engines and stepped out. I covered Peggy's engines and tied her down.
I was ready for a little sightseeing!
Well, tommrow will be my last leg in North Africa. And after that? You'll just have to tune in to find out.
