(Not sure if this is the right place...... other Mods... move if neccesary.)

If you are interested in learning a bit more about the relationship between the commercial aviation ATC system in FS2004 and the one that happens in the real world......... try out the combination of the following two links at the same time:

First of all..... load up the following link into your streaming audio media player:

http://audio2.km3t.org:8010/bos_gnd_twr

You can also go here and get this and other airport's live ATC... such as KJFK:  http://www.liveatc.net/ ;

That above link will give you streaming live ATC from KBOS...... Logan International in Boston, MA USA.  You get ground at 121.9 as well as tower on 128.8 and 119.1.  That's a "kick" enough by itself.

But this gets better.........

Then, with that playing, ALSO point the browser to

http://www4.passur.com/bos.html

That link will put a live ATC type (not literal) radar display onto your sreen (very short time delay).  Range is switchable from 10 to 60 miles.  Terrain / map features are shown.  You can click on the moving aircraft and get info like aircraft type, altitude and so on.  Inbound/outbound/tranist tracks are shown by color....... which is great for learning about the standard patters flown.

I have a 56 K dial up and it worked pretty well.  No stutter in the audio and the radar updates reasonably enough at the same time.

Between the two pages you can get a nice feel for the real world's ATC operations and how pilots are flying their approaches and how they communicate with ATC.  Gives you a good feel for what M$ got right in fs2004...... and what they missed too.

I learned a lot just by watching and listening while I was working on something else (off the computer).

I know that I now want the next version of the sim to add wind shear alerts from other pilots when the conditions present themselves in the simulated weather. THAT would be a SNAP piece of coding to add with little in the way of added voice files.

Anyway..... have fun.

best,

......................john

But most of you will notice how fast and easy the pilots and controllers communicate - professional to the fingertips  Smiley

Man! This has to be the NEATEST site I´ve ever been to! I can´t express how thankful I am for these jewels! I mean, I have never had the chance to hear an ATC "conversation", much less listen it in practically real time! Once again, thank you a lot!

The FS series and also VATSIM have really helped me to learn "ATC-speak", I've found. I have those sites bookmarked, and occasionally I'll listen in just to hear some ATC, and I find myself understanding it without too much difficulty. What's also really cool is to have a copy of the approach plates and even the terminal chart for the Boston Ground that broadcasts, so you can follow an aircraft on approach right up to the gate.

my advice is to listen in the morning. Its not overly busy and one of the controllers is really funny. Used to listen to this one all the time, eventually found something else to divert my attention:) Good link

Edit:http://www.home.zonnet.nl/rdeckert/webcam.html
try that link for amsterdamn webcam of a runway and the ATC the webcam may take a while to load, after a minute or so a box will popup just click yes to install the cameras software
