I recently did a fresh install of fs, and did the complete install. Now when i load the program, I get the following error "scenery.cfg file error! Local scenery directory (scenedb\westhem\alaskae\scenery) in scenery Area.008 not found" Im forced to click yes, and then the same error appears except for a different area, I end up having to click yes about 30 times just for FS to load. Does anyone know what might be causing this? I have tried reinstalling twice, with no solution. Any help would be appreciated thanks.

Sounds like a damaged or 'old' scenery.cfg file.

Do an UNinstall either from Control Panel or by inserting CD1. When done, either delete the FS2002 folder, or if your wanting to save add-ons (a/c, scenery, etc.) rename the old FS2002 folder, like 'oldfs' or something.

Now do the complete install accepting the default location which should be C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\FS2002. Or at least make sure your not doing the new install to the old folder.

Cheers,
Dave

What has happened is when you uninstalled FS iit did not remove the FS folder and one of the files in this folder is the scenery cfg file. All you need to do is to delete any file named Scenery.cfg and restart FS it will then build a new scenery cfg file. Mind you if you have any addon scenery you will have to add it back as FS will not put it there.

Thanks for the suggestions. I've tried both, and when I deleted the scenery.cfg and ran FS, it says it needs the scenery.cfg file and to reinstall FS or repair the file, so I just uninstalled it all. I tried installing on my friends laptop, and the same error appears, he suggested that maybe one of the disks is corrupt. Does anyone know which of the three disks would carry the scenery data?

Odig. Which install option are you using? FS2002 will run without a CD in the drive unless you used the Minimal option. In this case it reads the scenery from the CD. I forget which one.

If you get no error messages during the install I don't think there's anything wrong with your disks. Extracting all those files during the install can take a while & it might seem there's nothing happening. Give it time to complete the install & don't exit setup until the "successful" message appears.

I have done both a complete install, and a minimal install, and in both cases I get no errors during installation. It is only when I begin FS, that I get the error mentioned above. So I'm wondering if the scenery data on one of the cd's is corrupt, and the system only realizes they are corrupt when FS first loads up. Is this possible? And if so, is there any way to get around this problem?

It's possible. If you do a Typical or Full install all scenery will be copied from the CD to your HD. Then when you first run FS2002 the compressed CAB files are extracted. If any of these are corrupt or the CD is damaged this might explain your problem.

Check all your disks carefully for dirty marks, scratches or damage. If you spot anything it should be possible to clean them if you do it carefully. Use the same method as for a music CD.

The problem could also be with your CD ROM drive or virtual memory. If this happens on another PC I wouldn't think that this is the case.
