Just got in from watching the afternoon practice of the Snowbirds.........got a new vantage point and it seemed to be ok but for the back lighting of the P.M. sun....some shots came out a tad dark but maybe Photoshop can help a bit.....?.....I hope so, cause I shot 335 images today...........this one is fixed a tad........
This is before.......
And this is after.......

yes it can
you could manipulate the contrast and brightness manually or you could go to the bit in edit called "variations" and manipulate the various midtones and higlights of the picture

Pete, I guess you missed how I meant my comment ......I added the second image to the first one to show the before and after effects of my fix........first, I used "Levels" to bring a full highlight to shadow range of illumination, then I selected all aircraft and feathered this selection by 1 pixel and did an " auto colour " adjustment to all the planes.....then I did the auto colour on the entire image.......allowed me to brighten and add contrast and colour to the planes without having too much contrast when I brightened the sky......
