Ok I am really confussed, I've built an airport with AFCAD for FS9. Now I would like to enclude some buildings support facilities. I have FSSC as well and it works great in FS2k2, however I can not get it to see any files in FS9.

I know that on the web for FSSC it says it supports all versions of FS up to FS2k2.

However I keep reading on the forums responses to questions about adding scenery to FS9, to use FSSC. So my Question is how do I get FSSC to load the airport that I created with AFCAD so I can add the buildings and all to it?

My duel runway airport with all the AI traffic on it sure looks bair without any scenery Smiley

Steve, like I say to everyone starting in scenery design - do the tutorials. There is no shortcut.

You don't 'load' a scenery into FSSC or Airport for Windows. You use the progs to ADD objects to a scenery. If you carefully take a screen shot, set it to the right scale and insert it in FSSC/Airport EXACTLY at the correct lat/long coords of the scenery you can use it as a guide to see where you are placing things.

But unless you do the tutes all this is trotally meaningless.

PS

Alternatively if you want to drop 'default' library objects and buildings into your scenery either download and use the new M$ scenery XML SDK or get hold of my MakeScene package and start doing it in munutes. The updated SDK (Feb 2004) seems to have a few more objects available though than when I put MakeScene together.

Rollerball  Where might I obtain your Makescene package? I would like to try it. I read the tutes, and try as I may, they seem to bounce right off the top of my head. Wink Except for the ones in AFCAD and TTOOLs, those I got right away with a little help from the forums.

I'm going to d/l the M$ scenery XML SDKs, but if the tutes are any thing I've read, well I might just need a jack hammer to get them throu my thick skull. Grin

Please keep the advice coming and happy simming

Hiya Steve

It's here at SimV and also NoNodes. Here's the Simv link

http://63.217.28.218/files/1misc/04ScenPk.zip

Let us know how you get on.

BTW I recently checked the Feb 2004 update of the Scenery SDK and found quite a few more usable objects than I've got in my list (inc some more vehicles and 'general' buildings). I'll have to try and issue an update but don't have the time right now.

Thank you Rollerball,  I've now got a very nice tower at my airport. Though it took several trys at making the bgl file to get it right. The altitude is confusing to me. I keep trying to put it at 200 ft MSL instead of 0 ft AGL. At one point the tower was floating above the runway and the AI traffic was taxing under it. was very funny to watch Smiley Smiley

Now I can start putting buildings and things all around. Thanks again.

Hi,

today i started scenery editing in FS2004.

I downloaded FSSC and after a short familarization with the program I started editing, I wanted the make a more correct runway for a small airfield next to my home (EDOS, i live 5nm away from it) and also add some buildings.

after I made new runway and added 1 building (for testing purpose) I exported and added the scenery to fs9.

Everything is in place and works fine so far.

But now a got a major problem. (reason I post here) I started AFCAD 2.21 to make new start locations for may Airport. I tried to load the edos_afd.blg, but it says the file is not "recognized afd" (or something similar)

Did I made a basic, major mistake? Should I make the Airfield in AFCAD and then add buildings in FSSC? (As posted here, but i think FSSC is scenery creation, AFCAD just AI etc, isnt it?)

Sorry for my bad english, but as I wrote, i'm from Germany

Sad

Hi Cougar;

Welcome to the wonderful world of creating.  As for creating new airports or adding vor, ils, or approch lights for FS9, use AFCAD 2.21, Then use FSSC to place objects such as buildings.

After I built my airport I found the center point, that is Lat/Long, then started FS9, went to the airport and viewing from top down I placed my plane at the center of the air port, be sure you can see the cross hairs and are lined up with the run way, now take a screen shot. If you have FSUIPC loaded you can track your plane in AFCAD that is another way to get to the center.

After you have taken the screen shot paste it into a photo editer, I prefer paint shop pro., edit it to the size you need and then save it as a bitmap.

Now back in FSSC set the preferances to the Lat/Long, for the center of your airport, right mouse click the screen and chose insert background, browse to where you saved you screenshot and click it to insert it into FSSC as a background.

You will have to rotate the background so that it is lined up on the right heading. SAVE IT NOW!

Now you are ready to place all the objects you want in FSSC and you can see where you are putting them using the back ground.

Shound like a lot of work, but it is worth it. Hope this helps. Have fun.

Hi,

thank you a lot man, works simply perfect  Cheesy Just need to install a better Graphic tool, so I can work a little bit more precise in FSSC Wink

What about a tutorial about making objects made in GMax appear in FSSC? (I think a simple low-poly house is good learning stuff for GMax?)

Cougar;

Glad I could help. Most of what I've learned I've gotten right here from the forums. As for tutorials are good, I just have a hard time graspping what is said in them.

There is/are some good Gmax ones, Have you tried the one in the tutorial section here?

Good luck.

Ok I'll look for tutorials, but if your find something you can also post it here, please Wink (I dont really need a tutorial for GMax, but a tutorial how to get the *.gmax into a macro for FSSC)

EDIT3: Ok, I solved all problems, Objekt is placed very good in FS  Smiley But now there is only one last question that I want to ask: is there anyway to Merge BGL's? The Merging in FSSC dont really works, is the only way the merging of the XMLs before compiling?
