I have been flying FS2004 since the day it was released and it has worked smoothly until this weekend when it suddenly got all choppy and the frame rate is probably less than 15 fps. Can somebody tell me how I can fix this or if somebody can identify the problem.

Incase anybody wanted to know my system specs:
P4 Celeron 2.0 Ghz
512 MB RAM
ATI Radeon 7000 video card w/ 64 MB
120 GB Maxtor Hard Drive

The latest system upgrade was a 256 MB RAM upgrade on Sunday 4/4 AFTER the frame rates became choppy.

Have you scanned your pc for spyware?

Also:
Your GFX card is very weak, i used to have one of those about 2 months ago but i changed to a 9600xt and get massive fps 30+ with settings maxed 1024*768*32 and 4AA on, and that is in dense areas.

My system:Intel Q6600@3.6GHz, Corsair XMS2 4GB DDR2-6400 (4-4-4-12-1T) , Sapphire 7850 OC 2BG 920/5000, X-Fi Fatality, Corsair AX 750, 7 Pro x64

It cant be spyware (my system is clean) I had a feeling it was the gfx card, and as a matter of fact I was thinking of getting the very same model as you.

Mine is a Sapphire Fireblade model, it is faster than the normal 9600xt. I recommend it highly.

Yes, most likely spyware or adware. I recomend using Spybot and Ad-Aware together as they seem to make up for and find potential files the other one misses. I did this and it made a world of difference.

As far as the card. While the card may be weak for flight sim standards, that would not explain why such a recent drop in performance. If it worked "smoothly" with that card before, then I'd imagine the problem is something else. A new card wouldn't hurt though. Wink

Just...I don't think that's where your problem lies right now.

If theres anything that pisses me off its spyware and adware. Take this link http://download.com.com/3120-20-0.html?qt=ad-aware&tg=dl-2001 this is a program which searches your computer for spyware. I got it and it removed all my spyware. Everywhere you go they put ''tracking cookies'' you. This software will help you get rid of em Angry

Use both of them, what one misses the other picks up. I always get tracking cookies, so annoying.

i also get really disapointing frame rates. ??? i have both the spyware removal programs and use them regularly, along with disk cleanup and sys defrag. i have some add ons but not many, and i have all the latest drivers.
i average around 12-16, 7-8 in dense areas, 20-25 in low scenery clear skies areas, and all my sliders aren't even maxed Embarrassed

p.s. my system specs are my signature

I would agree that something is running...a process that is hogging memory and/or CPU. Could be spy or adware. You might try a using a program that tells you what each process is doing and using in detail. I use Process Explorer v8.2 from www.sysinternals.com.

This is more of a question than an answer. I was wondering if conflicts exist (that would result in impaired performance) between flight simulator display settings and graphics card display settings. For example, if you turn on anti-aliasing in the sim and also have it turned on in the seperate settings for your graphics card is the resulting performance better, worse or unchanged? Is there a rule of thumb for graphics card settings when using flight sim to minimize conflicts if they exist?
