I found this photo at douglasdc3.com
At first I thought it to be a edit but it is real, they were allowed to put stickers on it for the Century of Flight Celebration. If anyone else has photos of this DC3 please let me know! I would be willing to pay for some:)
P.S. Would make a fun repaint!! HINT! HINT!

They obviously need to hide it in a flowerbed.

Take note this was done by ametures since the critical surfaces aren't painted.

Oh I dunno. I reckon they got paid for painting the plane.

It isn't paint, it is stickers. They had to get approval from the FAA to put the stickers on it. That is why the control surfaces aren't covered, I would assume since the control surfaces on a DC3 is cloth ,stickers may damage it?
That would be something to ask Hagar as to the effect of stickers or anything for that matter being applied to a cloth covered control surface, he has some experiance with cloth covering.

Yes the control surfaces on the DC3 "Dak" are fabric covered.
The 3s I flew had lots of writing on the fabric with soapstone as that is how many top of the world villages received mail.
It never hurt the fabric at all and I have my doubts as stickers would either as we were ZAPPED at many Airshows with Stickers.
Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

They are fabric? I thought they were metal. Why did they build a metal aircraft and make the controls fabric? I don't follow the logic behind that.
???
