Hey, everyone.

I just picked up FS2002 this afternoon, and after messing around with a few flights with the stock aircraft, I decided to try to install a couple of downloaded ones.

I followed the directions in the ReadMe's, and the planes showed up okay in the "Select Aircraft" roster when I tried to create a new flight.  All the info was there for them, and they looked fine in the 360 spinning image at the bottom of the screen.

However, when I clicked the "OK" tab at the bottom to take me back to the main "Create a Flight" menu, each time I got a message saying it "couldn't find *.mdl in the library" (where "*" is the specific name of the aircraft).  I can't figure out what's going on, because in each case, the specified .mdl file is in the aircraft/**/model folder.  Is there some setting I need to adjust that I don't know about?

If it matters, I'm running Windows ME, and a couple of the planes I attempted to install were the "Top Gun F-5E" and "Thunderbird F-16" found here in the archives at simviation.

I think you might be missing a gauge. If I remember rightly clicking OK should bypass the problem. Wink

Welcome to SimV Kazansky!
Did u try flying anyway? I think I had that problem too, but I just carried on as normal. Clicked it as okay, and flew the plane.
Maybe one of the experienced guys here will tell u why. If it is what i had it is not a problem. I generally stick with the ones provided though, so I am not really sure of the true cause. Smiley

Regards,

Hi Kazansky. It would help to know which pages these aircraft are posted on. I couldn't find an F-5E so I checked out the F-5F here. http://www.simviation.com/fs2002military9.htm

All I can say is that it works fine for me. The panel is aliased so no gauges are involved. If it displays on the FS2002 menu I can't think why it should cause problems

I noticed the instructions tell you to unzip the file direct to FS2002. I would advise you to ignore all such advice in future & use the method in this tute for installing all addons.

Thanks for the quick replies.  Smiley

Sure enough, if I just ignore the error message and take the plane up anyway, it works fine.  Very weird, but hey, I'll deal.

Okay, back at it.  My goal is to actually manage to safely put one of these things back on a runway within a week.  Wink

In that case, start with biplanes. Then move onto monoplanes then onto jets. There is a nice Stearman modle somewhere that is very pleasant to fly. And land. Wink
