After almost 2 hours downloading I managed to get the new(ish) F-14 but the guages don't show up in the VC or on the 2D panel even though I've put them in the right folders and checked 3 times, anyone got any ideas or had similar problems?

My guess is you copied a 'gauges' (containing the F-14 gauges) folder into the 'FS2002\gauges' folder. A no-no.

The *.gau files must be immediatly below the FS2002\gauges folder and NOT a sub folder.

Cheers,
Dave

Do you have a gauge checking progran like fsGauges http://www.fsgauges.com/ so you can confirm that they are there or cfgEdit so you can see what they are supposed to look like?  CfgEdit will give you a lot of error messages if the gauges are missing.

One big caveat, fsGauges doesn't do .xml gauges.  It will tell you they are all missing.

Craig. I would check this out but don't want to get involved with large downloads I have no use for. Are you using the panel included with the F-14 or the recommended one at the bottom of this page?

I've been using the default panel, or trying to anyway. I'd rather fly this one from the VC so adding a new panel isn't really an option  Smiley

OK. Downloading a 30 Mb file is out of the question right now or I would check it out. Many panels feature 3 different types of gauges these days. The old familiar GAU files + 2 types of XML gauges. These are any number of XML & BMP files either in compressed CAB format or configured in an ordinary folder. It's important to be able to recognise them as gauges & install them properly. Each of the 3 types is pasted directly into FS2002\Gauges. CAB files look just like zipfiles. Don't extract them or they won't work.

Make sure you follow the install instructions carefully.

At least you finally fixed it.

There are so many ways of configuring downloads these days. All designers have their own methods & preferences which makes it very difficult to give reliable advice. There might be a good reason for including 3 sets of gauges with this particular aircraft but I never saw any sense in that - or why so many include zipfiles within the main zipfile. This just makes a simple job over-complicated. If everything was configured properly & carefully checked before uploading the files, installing any addon would be a piece of cake. A simple matter of cut & paste. There would be no need for auto-install, install manager utilities or anything else. Roll Eyes

OK. Rant over. LOL Wink
