Its 5:55 AM and the passengers are settling in for a bumpy ride out of Washington Dulles Intl.  A thunderstorm rolled in a couple of hours ago and is getting worse.  We are the last flight out before the airport shuts down untill the rain lets up a bit.

6 AM the door is closed, the ground crew pushes us back, they finaly give the signal to start the engines, and then dash back inside out of the rain.  

The engines roar to life, the passengers are seated, and we begin our taxi to runway 1L for departure.

The wings flex upward as they take on the massive weight.  Passengers are pressed into their seats and we are finaly on our way.

Out of the storm but not out of the heavy turbulance.  

6 hours and a couple of scares later, we make our way down to 10,000 feet.  About half way through the flight another VA A340-600 on its way to Washington passed less then 300 feet below us.  It took awhile to calm the passengers down but finaly they settled in and finished their lunch.

The flight attendents are securing the cabin as we make our final preparations for landing.

With the sun to our back we glide towards the runway in a light rain.

A sudden jolt marks the end of our flight.

6 1/2 hours after leaving a stormy Washington we pull up to the gate and everyone heads for their homes, hotels, and other destinations.
