There really is no forum actually designated to put this SOUND question into........ it's not scenery design....and it is not 3D aircraft design..... and it's not repainting....... so it's going in here (FS2004) for now.  Fellow Mods..... move it if necessary.

I am working on customizing the sound files a bit for some of my aircraft in fs2004.  Most commercial jets in the sim are just aliased to the generic 737 sound file.  I want to change that for a number of planes.  I have the aircraft container SDK and have read it..... it has limited information...and some aspects are confusing as heck.

First of all......... how come if a jet has 4 engines and the sound file is aliased to a plane with only TWO engines....that it seems to work OK...... even on start up when you start each of the four engines seperately?

If you have / want an APU engine..... can you add it as a fifth engine on a four engine aircraft?

Then, in editing the [GROUND ROLL] section........ is there a limit on how many linked sound files you can add together in that section.   I want a number of "rattles" in there along with a real low frequency rumble (in order to shake a sub-woofer transducer in the floor of the simpit).

Then in editing the [FLAPS] section...... for some reason I can't seem to link to a second sound file.  Is the flaps sound structure restricted to a single sound file?  Is it possible that an aircraft has somehow been designed so that it is over-riding the normal sound assignments in the sound.cfg file.... and you can't change a sound like the flaps?

That'll do for starters  Wink.

best,

................john

I'm guessing few people play around with sound files  Wink.

Welcome to the world of FS
This is one of the biggest problems out there People design three or four engine air craft than use a two engine panel and sound file for it. What I try to do is look for a good panel and sound file for the plane in question. and usually find one that will work. It might not be the exact sound but at least it has the right number of engines for it. If I can not find one than I will either will put the plane in a special folder I have in hopes I might find one eventually or Square file 13 it.
I have never messed with the sound files but from what I have read they can be rather diffuclt to work with. Lots of luck in trying to make your own.
