Hi guys. Bit of a newbie at sites and a numpty at geography. Anyone know of any sites or booklets with a list of all the airports close to interesting sites. For example, me being a brit, i dont even know what airfield to go to if i wanted to fly from the nearest airport by heli to get to the whitehouse lawn. Any help with this or any other geog would be gratefully recieved.
Great site and great downloads. Thanks to all contributors.

WELCOME TO SIMV!!

I can help a bita on the whitehouse bit:
-Go to Reagan NAtional Airport, typing 'ronald Reagan' into the airport name field in FS.
-then take you hilo and fly across the river to find the national mall, where all the Smithsonian museums are located as well as lots of memorials and the US Capitol.
-Near the Washington Monument (the big pole-looking thing) is the Whitehouse- it's a small thing compared with all else and is nice and white (hence the name) Grin.

About the rest, I would advise visiting the Freeware Screenshots board often.  People always fly at interesting airports.
Also, if you ever look at plane pics on airliners.net (if you haven't, you have no idea what you're missing), you can write down the 4-digit airport code by a pic with a neat airport in it and go fly there in FS.

Here's one to get you started:  KMKO!  Type this into the airport code box in fs and enjoy the rather amusing and glaring errors in the terrain by microsoft- the runway is floating!

Glad to help!

Hey thanks for the info Boeingman. Will check out that whitehouse spot in a bit after my sides cool down from that KMKO. Is that a real strip, as in a place on the map? Or is it just a cool chance for proggies to prove that you can still have a sense of humour, even tho you wear an anorak. Cheesy I'm all for it and wish there were a few more "Anomilies" just to keep life interesting. I tried an under and over in the extra 300 but couldnt keep a straight face long enough.  Any more like it?

I'm pretty sure it's just an error on ms' part- the fact the the runway is floating is pretty impossible for real life- it would need more support if it were going to hold up heavy airplanes! Must be a terrain elevation value that was wrong.
There are tons more airports like that in FS, some of them mistakes and some of them true to the world.  HEad over to AVsim.com and do a serach on Doherty's Approaches.  Michael Doherty did a beautiful job compiling probably 150 different airports like this.
