VATSIM / IVAO type of flying.
Have installed Sbrelay, Sbhosts, Qbox,  AVC,  (also RWilco, Fshost, FshostSpy & TSpk) hoping eventually to fly with live ATC.

Also have Vtsim user name and password.

Unfortunately I am missing something vital, the concept of the whole thing.

Followed many instructions given by kind people here, and carry out the proper sequence of loading the above.

After connecting via "connect to PC/SB server" window, and AVC pops up, it says “you must connect to the server first”. I am on the net for sure, so I suspect it means to use the correct IP address.

But where is the CORRECT one?

Downloaded the latest list of servers http://www.vatsim.net/data/who.html ,
but none is accepted
Also tried the ones in FShostSpy, and the UK-1.

I go to various airports, put their frqs in, use Fsnav, but nothing happens.

Un and Re Installed everything twice, even tried hostSB.dll.

By fluke, once I heard chatting to a Tower, called and was cleared to the RWY and did a few circuits. Could I repeat this again? NO ! not once more.

Can one choose at will a Vatsim IP to put in PC/Sbserver line.?. What governs which one to use?.

Can anyone explain what this type of simming is all about, and its benefits over the Fshost / RW type I fly with a couple of enthusiasts.

Thank you      nick

Make sure your AVC callsign is the same as your SB callsign, that caught me out a few times. Then hit connect on AVC. This should give a list of ATCs. Or, right click in SB and choose ATC directory.

The best way to tune from ATC to ATC is to use the ServInfo gauge, which you can download with ServInfo. It gives you a list of all the ATC online that are in range, and a touch of a button will tune you to them, as well as providing you with their ATIS.

I am back, but nothing showing on the gauge.

Changed places around Europe, changed frqs in radio panel (FSnav) but nothing.

Callsigns the same on both.

Any more clues, please                   nick

One more, what IP does one puts in "Intrnt Adrs server" of the "connect to PC/SB Server" ??

ALSO, just now I entered (do'nt know where I found it in my notebook)
" rw.avsim.net/egkk-v-gnd " in the server/room of AVC and it gave me in ATC Directory with the GRD freq of my airport, and I am with ATC taxying

BUT the gauge shows nothing ???

This is another fluke, as do not know reason of success.

Regards,    nick

If you're in the UK (I'm hazarding a guess that you might be because you're flying at Gatwick), the IP address of the server (and the voice server) is 80.249.98.88 . However, if you're connecting from the US, the server is 66.98.168.65 with the voice server being rw.avsim.net .

You shouldn't need to use FSNav to do anything radio-related, I use FSNav entirely for navigation when flying online.

Thanks for the US & UK IPs.
Does it mean that even if I position to a US airfield I cannot use the US IP ?.

The IP I found in my notebook was 212.205.81.22 when I managed, out of the blue ,to connect and speak to ATC.

Are their other IPs for each country, besides these.

Where do I get them (note my efforts from various sources that did not connect on first text I sent) any valied others for each country or airfield.

Is each IP valid and working at any hour, or only certain times?

In InfoServe when I click on the UK sometimes it says that UK does not accept this type of flying, and yet I had  TWR clearance.
