A fighter pilot’s story,
Summer 1940
It’s an early start for us today with our first scramble before dawn.
False alarm so it’s back home for eggs and bacon.
Second scramble, 08:40. A couple of dozen Heinkels with 109’s for company. I get a few good hits on a Heinkel and leave him with an engine out.
With height and speed I dive through the main formation, but the gunner on this 111 is on the ball. My rigger will be upset with me when I get home.
My trusty Hurricane is made of strong stuff and we are back in business in time for scramble number 3. 16:34, Heinkels and 110’s over the Capital.
No doubt about this one, my first confirmed victory of the day.
Scramble number four, 20:58, once again over London. Heinkels and 110’s again. I get involved with a fighter and use up my last ammo on a 111 that another chap has already clobbered. 1 shared and a probable.
As the light fades, I see my home field ahead.
It’s been a long day. Hope it’s quieter tomorrow.

Lovely shots Roger, but I think you need to get sponsored by Tetley, you seem to have picked up as many perforations as one of their tea-bags

There are two types of aeroplane, Spitfires and everything else that wishes it was a Spitfire!

Bader was busy else where that day. Over East Anglia dealing with a flight of He111's trying to strike north of the Thames.
Two kills for the legless wonder. On what is obviously Eagle day judging by the amount of times Tempest was scrambled.
Beautiful pics Hawker, just what the doctor ordered.

Thanks pal, thought you'd enjoy these
Between me and good old "Dogs Body" we saved the day, and not a Spitfire in sight
