THE TRACK!!
otherwise they are aircraft
I know lowest form of wit and all that but hey I couldnt resist.
F1 cars have a wooden plank on the bottom which 1.keeps them within the regulations regarding ground clearence
2. stops em getting damaged on the kerbs
3 helps the aerodynamics
If you are talking just behind the front wheels and just in front of the air intakes, then they are aerodynamic boards to smooth and split the airflow into the air intakes. F1 engines are so critically balanced that if these are damaged they quickly overheat.
I hope that explains what you are after ..... if not then show us a picci of what you mean.

how does it help the aerodynamics
i am a science person, I ask why, how, when, who, and why the hell did it do that?

It reduces drag ....... and that = less speed and more fuel.... Now thats the physics

side note, the wooden plank isnt allowed to be worn more than 1mm or else a car is disqualified. This piece of equiptment was introduced after the disaster weekend of imola 1994.

I understand how physics work. ive even gone far enough as to try to design my own wing, i want to know-when it was decided that flat bottom cars were disallowed, and why cant the more odvious wings do all the work, i mean champ cars are flat bottomed, they create enough DF to drive on a celing and not fall down(if there was a celing big enogh)

There are concerted efforts by the FIA to slow F1 cars down every year they introduce new rules to limit the capability of the cars ..... every year the teams come up with perfectly legal modifications which make the rule changes a farce. The cars continue to get faster.

i told you when it came into effect. After Imola 1994 where Ayrton Senna, and Roland Ratzenberger where killed, two drivers almost died and pleanty crashed. The reason F1 cars have to have them, is because of the rest of their design, it is alot differant to champ cars, the type of engine to the type of wings. They also have to use alot more braking and cornering at the same time.
