A spot of ship hunting in the Beaufighter. Late summer 1940...

Early start, lined up and ready to go hunting.

Out over the North Sea, looking for enemy convoys.

Nearing the Dutch coast, should be some “trade” knocking about here.

Convoy sighted! Six escorts and three juicy tankers.

The escorts put up flack, but a long burst of 20mm sets the first target well ablaze.

Target number two gets the same treatment.

Coming round again, target two is going down so we give target one another burst as the flack explodes around us.

Target three. A tad on the low side, but plenty of good hits. Caught a bit of flack on this run.

One target sunk, one sinking and one ablaze. A good days work.

With low fuel and no ammo left, and the odd flack hit, it’s time to head for home.

Powered by two Bristol Hercules XI radial engines and armed with 4 20mm Hispano cannon and 6 .303 machine guns, the Bristol Beaufighter Mk IF was one of the most heavily armed aircraft in fighter command when it arrived in the late summer of 1940. Later models became excellent torpedo bombers and other versions were used as night fighters.

Hehe, downloaded that bird earlier today. It flys quite nicely.

Great pics Tempest, however, are you using unlimited ammo? Because the cannon ammo wouldn't last three ships for me... And you might as well spit at a ship if you using just .303's.

No cheating here Woddy old pal. I got at least some 20mm into each ship, but finished off the last one with my remaining machine gun ammo. To be honest, I think those ships sink a bit too easy Wink

But, like I said once before, at my age I like it easy Grin

Yes,there is. Must be the short and high fuselage with the fishy looking shape. 8)

But I prefer the later models with the "V" elevators. They look even better. 8)
