Hi all...!

Lock On: Modern Air Combat. (Lomac).

Has any one purchased this combat flight Simulator and tried it out?
It has a rave review in my latest copy of Pilot Magazine.

http://www.pilotweb.co.uk

The aeroplanes and scenery are amazing.

Planes include:A-10A Warthog, F15C Eagle, Su-27 Flanker B & D, Su-25 Frogfoot, MiG-29 Fulcrum A & C, and a German MiG-29.

The near photographic scenery contains 180,000 buildings, 50,000,000 individual trees, 21 cities, 1,700 towns and villages, 18 airfields and 8 naval bases.

Set in the Black Sea region, (the Crimean Peninsular and eastern Caucasus).

Details here...>>>

Cheers all... Grin...!

I got the demo LOMAC with my Computer Pilot magazine couple of months ago and it was awesome, but found it a bit problematic, (I am still running Win98SE) however I just read in the latest edition of CP there is a big download patch (24 mb)  for  the game, so I will in all likelyhood purchase it., since I received the patch on the CD that was included in this months edition.  I also have a brand new system (Ultimate Gaming Machine) on the way.  Should get it on Tues next week  lol
Cheers

graphics = awesome
rest = average
campaigns = disappointing (not dynamic)

i still prefer the imho best sim ever: falcon 4 (with SP4),which features the most realistic campaign ever (dynamic, you could just sit there and watch the war,if you don't wanna fly yourself).

I heard a lot about it before it was released. Then it was released and I've only seen one post that was saying it was a huge dissapointment...

I've tried it, very similar to IL-2 / FB - Looks Great, not my cup of tea though......

I did add the patch, slightly better Graphical performance..... I prefer CFS3 which I rarely play, I guess that sums it up for me anyway.

Purchased for $28.
No problem installing app then patch.
Really good visuals in this sim.
No stutter.  Puts CFS3 to shame.
Exceedingly complex.  My learning curve isn't that steep so it will take some time.  Very little documentation.  Download pdf for essential check lists.  DIY with pdf manual available for $14.
I am concentrating on the A10.
What a nice and complex HUD display!
MUST be able to trim these aircraft.  Otherwise very frustrating.  I enabled two stick buttons for pitch trim. Clumsy. Should be hat for all axis as real deal.
Takes time to solve the Maverick launch procedures.  The A10 needs target separation to be effective.
In addition to target id as in CFS3, HUD provides a diamond which surrounds the ground target othewise target cannot be found or seen at missile launch distance.  Diamond X means no target.  This symbol wanders around the HUD and I did not understand at first and no documentaion.
HUD also provdes a small circle with an extension.  Points the way to home plate.  A10 also has a Gmeter in plain view like it should be in CFS3.  Very nice overall HUD and attitude gyro for vertical manuvers.
Preliminary on the mostly Russian fighters is that their HUD presentation is not as sophisticated.  I have a problem reading a/s for landing.  Sim was written in Moscow so emphasis on Russian fighters.

Just got it the other day. As stated, very complex game as far as all the button activation that are available. And those are just for the acft.  and selecting and launching weapons. As also stated, not very good documentation with the game. I am still having trouble learning how to select and launch the weapons on the A-10. Mostly trial and error right now.

I have a strong suspicion that I will try this thing out for a bit longer and then eventually shelve it. Oh well!

Update 1.02 is due end of April and that should solve some problems.  I agree with the button problem.  Its a matter of making selections and watching the HUD for desired weapon selection.
The A-10 fly scenario with no opposition is a good training ground.  It's difficult to find the target with TV Maverick even when the target is ID by the diamond.  6 miles max range but takes me to 2 miles or less to lockon.  Tanks, APC's cannot be seen if the position were not revealed by TARGET HERE in red.  Even so requires the ID to pinpoint.  No logic for the ID diamond that I can determine.  Sometimes it's there, sometimes not.
Weapon loadouts are absurd.  A-10 at night extremely high threat SAM environment with no shrike or HARM.  DECM must be toggled with E when it should be auto with visual and audio cues.
F-15 radar is capable of detecting an aluminum cloud at 10 miles.  Basically the F-15 doesn't have a standoff capability.
I haven't survived an encounter with Rus attack helo's yet.  Poor F-15 weapons loadout and no way to change.
ACM v Rus tough as they are numerous and some are always in a favorable position, are radar silent, cannot be seen, and have all aspect IR missiles.
The canned stuff is weighted far in favor of the Rus. Made in Moscow.
Still, A-10 HUD and graphics are really good.  Worth the price to compare to CFS3.   It will take some mods and time to get it better.

The F-15 loadout can be changed.  Buried in Open Mission\F-15C Mission\F-15C Patrol Caucsus is the mission briefing.  Map is a selection option.  Select Map and route is shown. Click on any route point and another set of options appears including Payload. Get rid of AIM 7 and load out  AIM 120's an 9's.  Intuitive?

Also DECM is toggled on by E.  I just didn't see the light on the instrument panel below normal view.

The Rus helos have killed much Blue first encounter scenario prior to fighter arrival and are on their way home.  Best tactic is to shoot them with AIM 9's from the vertical.  Don't get flat with them because they rarely miss.

Rus missiles have 75 pct kill capability.  Yours a more realistic 25 percent.

The mission is in Mt Everest terrain so manuever by the 15 is difficult.  Rus fighters usually are found in the valley's just after clearing a mountain peak.  Not an F-15 mission.

I'm working on getting my wing to do something besides fly parade and tell me the Rus are at my 6.  I know where they are, just can't see them.

It will be interesting to see how much support Ubi will provide because LOMAC needs a lot of changes.  I doubt they will ever get it to fulfill potential.  The F-15 radar is nearly usless and since the concept is standoff multiple target engagements, much LOMAC forum dissatisfaction.  Still, better than CFS3 for me so worth the hassle.  Ubi announced a WWII Pacific War sim for Fall release.  It will be very difficult to exceed the CFS2 standard.

IMHO it won't.
If I had the choice between the upcoming Pacific Fighters and CFS2,I'd choose UBIsoft's game.
The reasons are the bigger realism, the better graphics , (probably) the dynamic campaigns and the "feeling" of it. CFS2 doesn't have the "feeling" of a combat simulation game for me,because it simply is the FS2000 with weapons. CFS3 does this job a bit better, but I still have the feeling of being part of the Flight Simulator series instead of playing an "independent" game.

Interesting on feeling of combat.  My opinion is 25 percent sim combat, 75 percent game.  CFS2 still a seller at Amazon with good ratings.  CFS3 is hard to find on their list.
Absent AvHistory 1 series fighters, CFS2 was unsat.  Which is the problem:  The sims poorly represent the real deal.  Not unexpected as precision costs $.  I liked CFS2 1 v1 and that was it.
Ubi does have excellent graphics.  Likely their version will be CFS2 better visually.  Don't think fighters will be better unless 3rd party models them.

Here's some F-15C radar info:
Range While Scan, Key 2, is dead
Ditto Alt-I Track While Scan.

Radar training:
Sound off - distractor
Reference radar scope and STT.
F15C Fly will open with two IL76 transports.  One is at 2 o'clock 13 mi, the other 30 mi 12:30.
S, I, 6 and D to AIM 120.
(Should have another way to activate missiles other than Visual Mode but I haven't found it.)
Radar TDC (Target Designatior Control my definition) also controls radar range 10 - 160 nm.  TDC (two parallel verical bars) controls are ; up, . down, , left, / right. Run TDC to top of scope and range will change so 30 mile target appears.  It's spastic so don't be surprised if the 120 comes up and target at top is now at bottom of scope.  Touch top edge and .
TDC on or near target and Tab to lock.  Get range to 20 mile scale and S.
Study scope, take notes and later go to PDF pg 68 and analyze data.  Lots of need to know stuff.
Key to firing missile is RAERO, Range Aerodynamic for the missile.  It's a triange right side of scope pointing up.  When within RAERO, ASE (Allowable Steering Error) will bloom on the scope and HUD.  HUD dot to Box or center of scope and launch for test.  Likely won't impact the target.  Dot in the Box or center scope and watch the horizontal triangle with the closure rate adjacent move down and into the optimum range rectangle.  Launch again.
