I'm pretty sure that making an acurrate celestal setup wasn't on their to do list,  that would be a large undertaking.  You never know though.

I have thought about that too since I have downloaded real stars.  It has constelletions and alot more stars than default but I still don't know if all the stars are there that you need.  Also I don't know if it matters that the fs world is not a sphere.  One thing I have noticed is that the constelletions do change position in different seasons.

I allso so have the stars addon that birdie spoke of and i must say it is a must have file in your sim.it makes things look much nicer at night.as to the question of useing it for what you want to use it for i am not shure.i only fly IFR and it would probley be better to learn yourself to nav IFR if you ever plan to get in a real aircraft some day.because at most cases at night in the real world everything is pitch black looking from the cockpit except for lights on the ground.

Hi Woody

Dont know much about this celestal stuff, but you might gain some insight by looking at stars.dat file in the fs9 main folder.  Appears fs9 defines 1535 stars and maybe the data in the star locations will mean something to you, give you something to build on.

Note: if you change constellations= 0 to =1, the big dipper, which you'll see is defined, will be drawn.

Cheers,
Dave

P.S:IMHO it would be easier to purchase the Garmin 295 and carry it in your kit bag...   Smiley

P.P.S: found a stars.dat replacement at Avsim, search for stars_dat.zip. (Is in  FS2002-Scenery) 4500+stars. Havent tried it yet.
