Can someone assist with the instructions to install this Mozzie. i'm told it's a wonderful plane and well worth the 14 megs it takes to get the plane and texture files.

But I only speak english, and I think the 'loadout' instructions are in something else. I have installed everything in the loadout file using the "auto instal" into my main directory (the one that comes up by default - standard CFS2 directory, but the plane won't show up and I can only assume is has something to do with the foreign mlanguage instuctions in the loadout file.

I would be happy to help but this file is a tad bigger than my usual limit. I always advise people never to use auto-install features unless they trust the guy who configured them implicitly. It's usually possible to redirect the install path to a Temp folder & install them manually from there in the usual way. It should be easy enough to figure out what goes where.

If you continue to have problems please tell me. If this file is posted at SimV I can break my rule for once & check this one out for you. Wink

Hagar,

Thanks mate. Actually, the file concerned is the fbvigen.zip file on page 69 (or 68) of CFS2 Aircraft Downloads. That file is the 5.4 meg one.

The other file (8.7 meg) is simply a 'texture file' to be slipped into the folder after it is installed (you need one of these at least, to make it fbvigen work as it comes with no textures). I don't see how that could be the problem, it simply contains the image files that make up the textures (there are a few different choices to download, I chose the 'Invasion Stripes' version).

Anyway, the fbvigen file contains 3 folders. I x Mozzie (flyable) 1 x Mozzie (AI) and the 'Loadout File' I mention.

The two mozzie folders contain the usual Model, Panel, Sound folders and the Air, cfg and DP files. They all seem in order. There are no aliased files.

The Loadout folder contains guage files, wep, bgl's etc (which I know nothing about) and an 'Install.exe' facility. I assume the problem lies here because I can't see any problem with the Aircraft file (I'm actually only installing the flyable one, I've disarded the AI for the moment to simplify things.

To save you some trouble here is a screen shot of the open 'Loadout' file, followed by the Instructions I was referring to in my first post. I know it may be difficult for you to give advice on this info alone without actually using the files etc, but I thought you might see something that is obvious that I don't understand.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I am getting very frustrated with this thing. If it wasn't so bloody big a file, I would have given up and chucked it out. But I'm told it's such a great plane.

P.S. I have checked the amount of aircraft in my 'Stable' I am well within limits (58). I actually removed a dozen or so, thinking that may be the prob.

OK. Leave it with me. I'll download the files later & check it out myself. The instructions for that auto-install are the most complex I've seen in 5 years of messing with this stuff. Shocked One little typo & you would mess the whole thing up. There must be another way of doing it.

Right. I downloaded fbvigen.zip to check it out. There's no need to use the auto-install. This is for the weapons package & gauges in the "loadouts" folder & the "instructions" you posted are in the INI file. This can be ignored & the files can be installed manually in the usual way.

Paste the flyable & AI versions of the aircraft (Mosquito FBVI & Mosquito FBVI AI folders) direct to CFS2\AIRCRAFT. The Texture folders are missing so these must be downloaded & installed for them to work. The texture folders must have their correct folder names. You can check the names by opening Aircraft.cfg in Notepad. There are 5 variations of the flyable aircraft. It will need texture folders named Texture.tsb, Texture.teg, Texture.ned, Texture.thz & Texture.upp for them all to work properly. This seems a little strange to me & I would suggest editing Aircraft.cfg to remove the ones you don't want.

I checked out the flyable aircraft by creating a dummy Texture.tsb folder. This is what I got in CFS2.

To install the weapons & gauges open the loadouts folder. Right-click anywhere in the folder & select Arrange Files/By Type. This will sort the files & make things easier.

...

Ignore the EXE & INI files.
The first file is a texture. Paste this & droptankday.bmp into CFS2\SCENEDB\weapons\texture
Paste the 6 BGL files into CFS2\SCENEDB\weapons\scenery
6 x DP files into CFS2\OBJECTS_DP
2 x GAU files into CFS2\GAUGES

I hope this explains everything & didn't confuse you even more. Roll Eyes Wink

Thanks for your time and trouble Hagar. Sorry I took so long to get back to you. I've been a bit crook again.

I haven't got to it yet (I nearly threw the whole bloody thing out). I'll give it a go shortly and see if I can follow your instructions. Obviously the reason the thing won't show up, is that as you said, the texture folders for some reason, need to have a specific name.

As I said on the beginning, and you obviously noticed, this bloke may well be a great plane builder (and I'm sure he is) but I hope he has another 'mother tongue' because if that list of instructions is English, I'll be buggered!!.........(He's obviously a very nice person and obviously very devoted and kind to make his plane available to us all.....but this instructions...........lol Grin Wink)

I'll get back to you.

Thanks again  Cheesy Wink

Hi Brensec. Using special folder names is quite common with multi-texture options in all the MS sims. This is used on the default aircraft in FS2002 & FS2004.

That "list of instructions" you posted is simple Windows code. The INI file tells the auto-install exactly where to extract the files & folders. They're instructions to your computer, not you. Wink

I see............well anyway. The mongrel bastard of a thing still doesn't show up!!!!

I did as you said. I think.

Firstly, I forgot about the loadout folder altogether. At this stage I don't give a %&^%$# about bombs and crap. (besides, having already used the 'instakll file nineteen times, I'd say they're in there anyway).

I got the texture folder that I had downloaded (5 friggin' days ago!!) and it is the UPP one.

I installed that into the Mossie FBVI folder (that was already installed in the CFS2 Airfcraft Folder). I open the Aicraft.cfg file an dthere were 4 or 5 different 'FLTSIM' models there. I deleted all but the UPP one.

Is that what I was supposed to do??

If it is. It didn't work

Any suggestions???

Try pasting the original Aircraft.cfg file back into the folder. Make sure the texture folder is named Texture.upp (it's not case-sensitive.)
Then try it in Free Flight. The option for the texture you installed should work. The others won't.

If this doesn't fix it I'll mail you a modified Aircraft.cfg.

Thanks mate, I'll give it a try.

just while i'm here. Why is it the name of the texture file (and case) is an issue here. I have other planes that just have 'texture' in both file and folder, some are upper case, some lower, some are one of easch. What's so special abouit this thing.

I'll be back in a minute. Thanks Grin Wink

The best way for the author to have configured this aircraft would have been with a Texture folder like most other downloads. The [fltsim.0] entry could then have been something like this.

[fltsim.0]
title=Mossie FBVI TSB
sim=DH98 Mosquito FBVI
model=1
panel=
sound=
texture=
<<<< no folder name

checklists=

Then at least the original version would have worked out of the box. The other texture options could be added as required.

This one has been configured with specific folder names which is why you're having problems. The texture folder names (after the period) must match those defined in Aircraft.cfg.

I pasted the original back in. I checked the ".upp" case. They were 'oposite', so I made them both upper case.

Still no good!!!!!!!

I just noticed something in your last post. The "FLTSIM" entry that I left myself with after deleting the others, should that have been "FLTSIM 0" or does'nt the number matter??

(You better send me the folder you mentioned before my PC goes out the window. Thanks mate).

Thank goodness for that.  Grin

The Aircraft.cfg [fltsim.xx] entries must be in order & start with [fltsim.0] to work. CFG entries are not case-sensitive. The folder name can be TEXTURE.UPP, Texture.upp, texture.UPP or any combination you wish. The folder name can be anything you like providing it follows the folder naming conventions. Texture.0, Texture.green or Texture.skybluepink. The part following the period does not matter providing it's as defined in the texture= entry in Aircraft.cfg.

Just took it for a little spin in free flight. A very realistic plane. The engines sound fantastic......really beautiful!!!

I'm going now to see if I can actually do some damage with it, without kiiling myself (and my co-pilot)

P.S. It also has a nice little touch I've not seen before. When you open and close the canopy, the pilot actually climbs in and out of the plane!.......very nice.

Thanks Hagar...... Grin Wink
